Talking Futurama - The Lesser of Two Evils

It's evil versus possibly more evil on this week's Talking Futurama, as we finally meet Flexo, Bender's ambiguously aligned twin! A trip to an inaccurate theme park simulation of the year 2000 brings Flexo aboard as a new member of the Planet Express crew, but there's something about him Fry doesn't like. Is it his clearly devilish (and metallic) goatee, or the fact that he's just as evil as his best friend, Bender? Whatever the case, we urge you to not spoil the shocking twist, which is as surprising as it is confusing!

I thought “Arachnoapores” was a parody of the Price Pfister commercials, with the tag line “The pfabulous pfaucet with a pfunny name.”

It's odd how in 2000, beards were media shorthand for evil versions of a character, but by 2010 they would be media shorthand for a character becoming depressed. God forbid anyone just have facial hair (though by 2019 obviously a lot of characters just do since it's much more socially acceptable now) -- This is such a good trope subversion episode (while also being a great Star Trek parody) that really shows off a lot of what I love about Futurama in general. Much like the prior episode with Zoidberg's mating, I definitely did not know either of these were very specific parodies until I'd already seen them many times, and this is my first time revisiting it since I've actually watched the TOS episode it's poking fun at.

The Leela at the pageant scene reminds me of the 2015 Miss Universe winner announcement, when Steve Harvey read the wrong name and had to correct himself only after the poor woman who placed 2nd (Miss Colombia) already got the crown and the sash on-stage. I checked in on what she's been up to since -- she starred in "XXX: Return of Xander Cage" and "Celebrity Big Brother," where she tied 3rd with the lead vocalist of Sugar Ray.

Re: phone booths, I can't find any articles/news on it later than August of 2019 but there's still four left in NYC, all on West End Ave in the Upper West Side. All of the others that were still hanging around got torn down in 2014 to be replaced by LinkNYC kiosks, which are combination phone/free wifi spots with a USB charge port and an emergency 911 button.

My favorite Cops parody is the My Name is Earl one where they all celebrate and throw a big party every time the rerun they were in is on.

That trumpet-nosed alien is pretty cute. She also looks very horny.
