What A Cartoon! - The May 2020 Schedule
Added 2020-04-30 19:01:00 +0000 UTC
Summer is just around the corner—at least, that's what we're observing from the safety of indoors. And with another month comes another dose of podcast fun to keep you nice and distracted! This month, we have a wide range of topics, including cartoon dumbasses, anime legends, super friends, and one of the world's greatest sequels. So stay inside, stay safe, and get ready for another excellent four weeks of What a Cartoon!
Also, don't forget, if you're a $5 subscriber to the Patreon, you get to hear all these upcoming episodes a week ahead of time and ad-free, along with our collection of exclusive miniseries, which includes our current one, Talking Mission Hill! And $10 subscribers get all that AND our full-length What A Cartoon Movie! podcast at the end of each month! This month, we'll be looking at the fabulous tearjerker, Toy Story 2.
So, without further ado, here's the schedule for April:
Beavis and Butt-Head 2011 Season - "Doomsday / Dumb Design" [Patreon Date: 5/4/20 - Free Feed Date 5/11/20]
As part of our mission to return to a series we've previously covered once a month, we're returning to the Beavis and Butt-Head well once again—but with a twist! This time around, we'll be covering the under-appreciated 2011 reboot that MTV quickly abandoned in favor of more reality shows starring alcoholic meatheads.
The fresh HD season isn't on any streaming service currently, but you can find it on a recent Blu-ray as well as digital storefronts like Amazon.
Dragon Ball - "Monster Beast Giran" [Patreon Date: 5/11/20 - Free Feed Date 5/18/20]
We're finally visiting one of the most important anime series of all time this month on What A Cartoon! Though the sequel series Dragon Ball Z caught more attention in America thanks to its high-stakes melodrama and brutal battles, it all started with the endlessly charming and delightfully bawdy Dragon Ball. Join us as we examine an episode where the fighting is more about gags than endless grunting as Goku battles the fearsome Giran!
The original seasons of classic Dragon Ball are available in so many places, including streaming on Hulu and Funimation.
Justice League - "Injustice For All Part 2" [Patreon Date: 5/18/20 - Free Feed Date 5/25/20]
After this collection of heroes had been a joke for 20 years thanks to the existence of Super Friends, the talented folks at Warner Bros. animation redeemed the Justice League in cartoon form with their stellar early '00s series. For our first trip into the world of Justice League, we'll be discussing an episode where nearly all the villains and heroes get to shine equally. (And even though it's a two-parter, thankfully the first part isn't all that important.)
You can get Justice League on Blu-ray, or it's streaming officially on DC Universe.
An Extended Preview of April's What A Cartoon Movie! for Toy Story 2 [Patreon Date: 5/25/20 - Free Feed Date 6/1/20]
For our Pixar sequel poll, the studio's very first follow-up emerged as the clear winner. Get ready for our full exploration of a movie that was saved from a direct-to-VHS fate—and the behind-the-scene battles that let Pixar salvage this masterpiece. And at the end of the month, we'll share our lengthy preview AND the full podcast for our $10 subscribers!
There's an amazing Blu-ray of the film out there, and you can also find it on Netflix (in the US at least) and Disney Plus.
We're looking forward to another fun month on the Talking Simpsons Network, so mark your calendars and prepare for a bunch of ultra-long podcasts as we shelter in place and while away the hours with podcasting!

Hey guys, love the Justice League episode choice. Also hope you can get one of the Watchtower Database guys on the show, they run the youtube page all about the glorious DCAU or the Timmverse . May is going to be another great month. I am an unabashed Dragon Ball super fan i love it, Dragon Ball GT included. Really happy that I have pleged at the $10 level for almost a whole year. :) Guys you make working from home and my former commute amazing.

2020-05-02 03:53:47 +0000 UTCThey should definitely do the driving epkisode at some point, though. And hopefully have the All Systems Goku boys on, too!
2020-05-02 03:14:39 +0000 UTCSomething for the Toy Story 2 episode: We've all heard of the famous story where the movie was accidentally deleted and saved thanks to an employee keeping the files at her house... but we've always seen it through a simplified lens. Here's a FAR more detailed version of the story from someone who was there https://www.quora.com/Did-Pixar-accidentally-delete-Toy-Story-2-during-production/answer/Oren-Jacob

2020-05-01 02:08:06 +0000 UTCPlus, since history is an element of this podcast, it seems reasonable to start the story from the beginning instead of the middle, then jumping around.

2020-05-01 01:04:37 +0000 UTCI could see an episode of Z Kai working and they just point out anything interesting that happens in the filler of the original the episode covers but yea.

2020-04-30 23:01:41 +0000 UTCDefinitely a wise move to select Dragon Ball instead of its more famous sequel series, not only because it's the superior show, but because it works so much better for the format of WAC than Z would. So little happens in a single Z episode that you would almost be forced to pick an oddball episode like the driving one. Super has a couple of stand-alone episodes that would work should you (or a patron) ever wish to turn to it.

2020-04-30 19:46:55 +0000 UTCGreat JL episode. Love how it sowed seeds for the Cadmus arc. I wouldn't mind a Talking Justice League in the future...or a Talking DCAU :P
