Talking Simpsons - The Simpsons Sing The Blues With Alex Navarro

As we reach the end of our first season re-evaluation, we've got Giant Bomb's Alex Navarro to help us with the Simpsons' platinum album, The Simpsons Sings The Blues! At the height of Bartmania, Matt Groening, Jim Brooks, and David Geffen brought together a huge list of famous musicians to make an album about our favorite Springfieldians. Learn how the 1990 album happened, the famous (and infamous) folks who secretly worked on it, AND the stories behind the music video for Do The Bartman and Deep Deep Trouble, all in this week's podcast!

Re: "Nine and One" and "There Are a Few Things" from the Wiki entry for "Deep, Deep Trouble," I think you've been had. Those b-sides were added to the page recently (in September 2019) by an anonymous editor who made some other non-sequitur edits to Simpsons-related pages. The IP address for the edit traces to Greece; "Dokeka Kai Ena" may be a misspelling of "Dodeka Kai Ena," which translates to "Twelve and One." (It is also the name of a Greek pop song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Mifk-VTQ2A )

90% of the time they played a Simpsons music video on MuchMusic, it'd be Do The Bartman. I had nothing against that video, but Deep Deep Trouble was such a rare treat. I always wished they'd play it more often! (And I agree it's the better song.) Of course, now I can watch any music video any time I want, however many times I want... yet, am I going to check out the Deep Deep Trouble MV again? *shrugs* Meh! This also unlocked a memory deep within me -- I used to get the rhyme "now you can't go, to the boat show" stuck in my head all the time because of that weird rhythmic cadence. And now it's been stuck in my head all day! Thanks!
