Added 2020-08-05 04:00:04 +0000 UTC
For this week's episode, we welcome on journalist Dave Schilling--check out his new podcast Full Court Chat! After bonding over shared nerdery, we discuss Homer's new motorcycle, the group almost named "Christ Punchers," too many NRBQ songs, and much more! You may listen to this podcast, but you'll never defeat The Cobras!
Really appreciated the lyric syncing in the news section with the dk rap

Looks like Scully linked to a part of it as well on his Twitter. https://twitter.com/scullymike/status/356622149819179010?s=21

I wonder if the NRBQ documentary being worked on was their appearance on A&E’s Breakfast with the Arts. I don’t see the series cataloged thoroughly anywhere, but if you search for “nrbq breakfast with the arts” or “nrbq Simpsons” you will find bits and pieces. This clip has most of The Simpsons stuff and features Mike Scully. https://youtu.be/6FP0HTMVl9M Everything seems to indicate it was from 2003, so it is questionable.

It’s stressing the first syllable vs. the last syllable. “REZ-oomay” (standard) vs. “rezoo-MAY” (Marge’s way)

I have been waiting for so long for this episode to understand the resumé/resumé joke. It turns out that I likely will never actually get the joke as I can't hear a difference in the pronunciations. I feel like my life has been wasted.

Thank you for clarifying the time travel Marge part of the dance. I was so confused for the longest time. Even though it's been years since I seen this episode, I always get a laugh out of the part where the dance is over and Marge has that tired look on her face. I forgot how good this episode was.

The “Mayonnaise and Marmalade” song is so oddly delightful. It makes me laugh every time.

Henry saying "...while in their late 30s" for this episode really stood out. Either I'm getting too old, but I really forgot that they are only supposed to be around that age. Maybe its the strong boomer energy of the plot

Oh, and I'm totally fine with the extra step of Marge throwing the bike.
It's kinda like the "Super Fun Happy Slide": we all know we probably shouldn't do it... but given the already ridiculous setup, when are we going to have this chance again? ^_^
Thanks for the podcasts, folks. Stay safe. :)

Maybe they got away with it by saying it meant punching *FOR* Christ.
Y'know... like, fighting on his behalf, or whatever.

Lenny must love the '50s, judging by his appearance in "Marge Gets a Job" (shame he was a week early).

Old Internet Rumor: Chris Carter believed heavily in the Y2K Doomsday, so he wanted to wrap up his shows by the end of 1999.
On January 1st, he was totally lost and had to come up w/ new series arcs quick.

The whole "Cycle Slut" bit caught me completely off guard this time and I gotta say it REALLY bugged me. Homer has done a lot of awful things (in season 11 alone), but this being present where the joke is that Homer didn't ask permission because he knew she'd say no just makes me feel gross. I wish there was something more clever, like the bike being the cycle slut and Homer not having realized Marge was there or something. As it is, Homer just crossed a consent line with Marge that I really don't like (and yes, I know protagonists don't have to be completely moral, I just think this comes across as misogynistic without any kind of good joke or comment).

I'm in Bob's boat. As a Catholic schoolboy, "Christ Punchers" shocked me to my core like no other Simpsons line.

Homer's slow transition into being a sociopath is still alarming, though.

Going through season 11 has been a real eye-opener. I first saw these episodes when they were new during a rough patch of my life, which made me think I liked them way less than I do. They're not great but with the benefit of hindsight I can appreciate them for what they are: pretty good cartoons.
