Surprised someone else is watching the birdgirl show - big agree about Paget Brewster but I actually wish the show was at least as cohesive as bojack, if anything. It feels so disorienting surreal and weirdly written sometimes that it just isn't clicking. But I'll keep watching, all the actors are great

Dante did indeed tell that Santa story, it was great. - Henry

No offense, but that's why I brought it up on the podcast

The plot in Gremlins that Bob talked about with the evil land developer is not in the theatrical cut outside of a few lines. Joe Dante and co realized there were too many plot threads in the first half of the movie and really paired it down. Originally Deagle, the evil old lady, was buying up a bunch of property and was going to let a toxic waste dump be built near the center of town. You can find the deleted scenes on the DVD/Blu/4K releases or youtube. They're a good lesson in pairing a movie down. I don’t know if Joe Dante talked about this at the Q&A (sad to hear the host wasn't very good), but one of my favorite stories of studio interference is the Santa Claus speech in the first Gremlins. Warner Bros. absolutely HATED that scene and execs were constantly trying to make him cut the scene. Even when preview screenings went really well, Warner execs were saying out loud “Its previewing well, and now all we need to do is cut that Santa speech and it’ll be perfect.” It came down to Warner putting pressure on Gremlins’ executive producer Steven Spielberg to make Joe Dante cut the scene. Spielberg admitted he didn’t really care for the scene, but said it was Joe Dante’s movie, and the decision should be up to him. Dante later found out that Warner were so confident they’d be able to make him cut the scene that notes had been printed up that would’ve been sent to projectionists across the country with instructions on where the scene was on the prints and where to cut the film and discard it before showing it.

I had a similar experience at the Tim Heidecker show in Madison. A couple next to me were talking at full volume during his songs and left after the third one. I think they were just there for the stand up character and didn't know there would be music which is the whole point of the 'Two Tims' conceit advertised. Tim was incredibly funny and even called them out after they'd left as the guy of the couple was wearing a stupid hat with a duck coming out of it and kept referring back to them throughout the show. I got the coveted signed On Cinema book at the merch table.

All due respect, and I’ll include myself here, you may want to defer to others on the question of whether the WAKANDA FOREVER trailer is or is not a respectful tribute.

That'd be interesting if they managed to sync Treehouse of Horror episodes with the season number like you mentioned. Unfortunately, Matt Selman's Halloween episode isn't a Treehouse of Horror episode, it's gonna be called "Not It".

As they explain, the frustrating thing is that they get great talents on-screen for documentary interviews, but then won't let them finish a sentence without either the narrator jumping in with a quip, cutting to the thing that's being talked about, or other over-editing that gets in the way of just letting the interviews provide interesting information.

What's wrong with the Toys/Games That Made Us person (s)? I've not seen any of it but they're always recommended on my Netflix.

When Henry was responding to Bob not having Candybars, all I could of was the, "you know Marge, in some ways you and I are very different people" line

Mark Lee Marcheschi

The comic did IT already too I really like it because he was after homer and his friends the kids almost not at all

Cossover

I liked that they touched on stuff like Damage Control profiling the mosque and raiding it, but obviously the MCU is only going to deal with that concept so far. - Henry

Buy it used or new (digitally) -- I get no royalties either way Glad to hear they mentioned the comic! Man I wish they'd get me involved somehow, in any small way, because I'd love to do anything for the show and I feel like this would've been the closest chance for me. My lines are open! (Not holding my breath though)

I was at the Comic Con panel on Saturday when they showed the sneak preview of the Death Note THOH segment — I can’t remember if it was an audience question or a question from Alex about what inspired them to do it, and someone (It was either David Silverman or Matt Selman I think? But it could have also been Carolyn Omine who I think wrote the segment and was wearing a Death Note shirt? I wish I could remember exactly) mentioned the comic VERY briefly. It was something like “I know the comics did it years ago, but we’re doing it now, because time has passed and they aren’t making comics anymore,” not a direct quote, but that was the “logic,” which now seems like it might have been in response to Twitter. Far from an appropriate acknowledgement, but that was the only mention of/reference to it I can recall. My husband and our friend did both turn to me like “I NEED TO READ THAT COMIC NOW.” If there’s a place that I can purchase it that will most directly benefit Nina, I’ll get them both a copy — also, is there anything specific we fans can do to help the powers that be recognize her direct influence on that segment? I think they also mentioned the studio they collaborated with for that segment, but it wasn’t one I was familiar with and I can no longer remember the name. Apologies for my apparently terrible short-term memory. I think I need to up my ginkgo biloba.

I was waiting on your thoughts on Ms Marvel, Henry. I’m quite surprised to hear you felt it wasn’t Muslim enough, because I was pretty shocked at how unapologeticly south Asian and Muslim it was. For me I felt like if that show existed post 9/11, I wouldn’t have gone through that period of rejecting the Muslim/Indian part of my background. The first 2 episodes filled me with so much glee! I think the worst part of the show was the brief copaganda in the last ep. But otherwise I loved it!
