When Gus said he was able to get a dinner reservation when he was a senator, I took that to mean he was a senator in the same alternate timeline where he was able to get a reservation, not in this timeline where he is neither a senator nor able to get a reservation

Excited to listen to this, incredible to think Emril had his own sitcom, did anyone watch that stuff. Do you think Elzar comes back in the re-boot?

Bob thinks haggis is just a plate of guts? Lol

I didn't even write in my notes that "Mortron" was a pun on "Morton," because I thought it was too obvious and I didn't want to be tedious (plus I think we've seen that label before). So when Henry said it was a reference to Lew Morton (which it also is), I stuck to my guns on not being tedious. #MortonGate

Bob Mackey

I think we were just confused because Henry said it's a reference to Lew Morton

The strong nuclear force is one of the four fundamental forces (along with gravity, electromagnetism, and the weak nuclear force). Atomic nuclei are made of positively charged protons and neutral neutrons. Since the protons all have the same charge, they would naturally repell each other and blow the atom apart. The strong force is what counteracts this and holds it together.

You guys mentioning Kif made me realize how much I've missed him so I'm excited to see the next episode.

Justice for Bob’s opinion about Ratatouille, which I share. It was a bad movie then, and it’s a bad movie now.

As someone who's spent a lot of time in Eugene, Oregon that was definitely my favorite joke of the show.

I had TOTALLY forgotten about Dave Herman's third act Japanese caricature voice and just... WOW. It's disappointing when the show dips into racist crap like this, as it was with Billy West playing Amy's dad and the questionable depiction of the native Martians in "Where the Buggalo Roam," but at least it's mostly contained to the end of the episode here

Ah yes, Bender: the Sanji of the Planet Express crew...

It was one of those times where I didn't explain the joke because it seemed very obvious. - Bob

I think it’s a twofer

I think a potential origin of helmut spargel’s name is former German chancellor helmut kohl whose last name means cabbage. Spargel is the German word for asparagus. As mentioned elsewhere, Wolfgang puck seems to be the inspiration.

The label is a clear parody of Morton Salt too

nina matsumoto

I thought mortron salt was just literally a reference to "Morton Salt" with the famous Salt Girl mascot

This episode is the perfect example for how even subpar Futurama in this era is still pretty damn entertaining. Even the comically low stakes B plot has plenty of laughs in it. The entire A plot is all about just subverting expectations with its jokes to the point that the first time I watched it I was just waiting for the joke when Farnsworth announced the secret ingredient was water, "Water and...?!"
