What A Cartoon Movie! - Batman/Superman: The World's Finest

Now is the time as we cover the first crossover in the Bruce Timm DC animated universe, as Batman chases Joker to Metropolis, which leads to friction with Superman AND Lex Luthor. Not to mention Lois Lane falls for Bruce Wayne in a love affair few comic fans expected, all leading to an explosive battle full of robots and kryptonite. Learn how this Emmy-winning TV movie happened and the history that lead to it in this month's premium podcast!

When you mentioned Bippo’s last name is Bibbowski, I wondered if this is a nod to Willard Bowsky who was an animator and defacto director on all the best black and white Popeye’s cartoons and worked and the Superman shorts. Bippo being the intersection of these two Fleischer characters makes me think the name is an intentional nod.

On the topic of Clancy brown playing intense characters, he’s amazing in the HBO show Carivalé as an evil priest

I love love LOVE this movie so very much. I had it on VHS and watched it a million times as a kid, and later on got that stupid snapcase DVD of it and watched it a million more times, and was very bummed when we got blu-ray releases of the entirety of BTAS including Mask of the Phantasm and Subzero (and even Mystery of the Batwoman on its own) but no word about this. Thankfully I knew when the Superman TAS blu-ray got announced, we'd finally have it in HD this way, but they really SHOULD HAVE had it available as the unedited movie as a bonus feature or another disc. It's a bummer that you have to go back to that snapcase DVD (or a torrent of it, I suppose) to watch the movie as it originally aired, and in its better form. -- This movie really is a masterclass in how you should have two superheroes meet in another medium, and BvS is such dogshit in comparison. This movie still trusts the audience to remember that Superman has x-ray vision and Batman has gadgets and stealth, but they still show the characters doing the action of figuring out each other's identities, rather than just having Clark hear Alfred on Bruce's earpiece, and then never explaining how Bruce knows Superman is Clark (if he even does in BvS?).

The current state of big overalls: good news for Henry, not so much Bob

Definitely onboard with the criticism of the Joker redesign. What really stinks is this Joker has a bit more punch to him, he's more of a threat than the first two seasons, but he just looks so stupid! The Batman Beyond design is great, but it's just crazy to me to take-away his lips. They even relied on those as the big reveal in Mask of the Phantasm. Aside from that, this is an enjoyable team-up. I wanted to revisit it a couple of years ago and grabbed the DVD release for about 7 bucks at one of the last remaining physical media stores in my region. I would definitely encourage those who have a curiosity to just snatch one of those while they're plentiful and cheap since we definitely can't rely on HBO Max to carry this forever.

Love this movie. But has anyone seen any of the new Tomorrowverse? It’s so good. That Superman: Man of Tomorrow is the BEST Superman movie I’ve ever seen. So good. Please I hope you guys do that movie sometime. It’s so good.

enjoyed hearing you guys talk about STAS! I know it's commonly accepted that it never quite reached the heights of BTAS...but it still soared pretty high! As far as characterizations of Clark/Superman go, it's easily one of my favorites. He had such a charming sense of humor and modesty to him that I wish was more evident in recent live action versions. You get the sense, like you touched on, that he really does enjoy being Clark and needs it as a change of pace from having to be Superman all the time. He loves his job, loves his ma and pa, loves his friends. Side note - I half-expected Bob's "oh come now" Sideshow Bob voice when Henry rolled out the name 'Bibbo' as an established character

Minor correction: Amalgam comics wasn't the line where the DC and Marvel characters fought each other, that was just simply titled DC vs Marvel Comics (well...half were that, the other half was called Marvel vs DC Comics) a series of 4 comics where the mentioned battles took place.) Amalgam was a related line of comics released during the same time, where DC and Marvel heroes were "mashed together" to make new characters. Batman merged with Wolverine to make "Dark Claw." Superman and Captain America merged to be "Super-Solider" Deadshot and Bullseye were "Deadeye" Doctor Doom and Doomsay were...you guessed it, Doctor Doomsday. And perhaps the most absurd, Professor X, Doctor Strange, and Doctor Fate all merged to be...Doctor Strangefate.

Movies anywhere is separate. Ultraviolet was a locker you could unlock with vudu, before it was ended. Vudu is still around. Movies anywhere is a collaborative effort from most of the big studios (Sans Paramount) that allows you to purchase one movie once and have it available through different platforms. Prior, if you bought it on one, you would have to rebuy it on another platform.

Ahhh good ol' Bruce Tim DC Uni! I'm sure the animation teams were onboard animating the entire DC catalogue after Batman XD but it still turned out well.

Loved this event premiere on Kids WB. Superman annoyed me when he cheated and used his xray vision to find out who batman was
