Added 2024-08-28 04:00:07 +0000 UTC
We've reached the end of the month, which means it's once again time for another installment of our community podcast! Join us we discuss the incredible amount of Simpsons news from San Diego Comic-Con and D23, including updates about new Treehouse of Horror and Disney+ exclusive episodes, a new Christmas two-parter, and more. And, as always, we read and respond to your questions and comments from the most recent round of episodes. It's all happening on this month's Talk to the Audience, where we're taking podcasting to strange, new places!
When you were talking about Jay Johnston I heard Jake Johnson. I was worried for a second as I searched around!

My closest friend is one of those "can't even watch a trailer, can even hear about the vibes" anti-spolier guys, and I love him very much, but its very hard to recommend things to him without saying too much. I can get not saying major spoilers, but sometimes it goes too far.

Hah, I'm sure they've already done all their research. I'd just be happy to add a detail or two. It was a crazy way to start my career...

I was the Script Coordinator for Bee Movie and spent every single day in the room with Jerry for years rewriting that damn script. I will absolutely add my $0.02 as a comment when your What A Cartoon is released...

Personally for me, the original Godzilla film is a 5/5 experience, easily. A thousand articles and books have been written about its atmosphere and thematic merit, but IMO it also simply excels as an engaging story. Much like Jurassic Park, it's presented more as horror than action, and it delves into the sorts of ethical questions posed by classic science fiction. Doctor Serizawa actually remains my favorite human character of any Godzilla movie because of this (I have not quite seen every Godzilla film, but I'm getting close). The destruction wrought by the original Godzilla (himself a tragic victim) is sobering, but the more personal story arc with Serizawa hits just as hard.

I've rewatched Prometheus several times since it came out and it really is pretty good. I also didn't like it at the time and I think that's because I was expecting an Alien movie with THE Alien in it. When I didn't get that it upset me (and the general audience).

I'm right with Henry in how I had to totally rework my character stats to beat the final boss of Shadow of the Erdtree. He's a doozy. I haven't fought Malenia in a while but I think I ended up with far more attempts on Erdtree's final boss even compared to Malenia, who took me forever to beat. Congrats, Henry!

re: litmus test, yes it's exactly about being mindful of other people. It shouldn't matter how you (general you, not you, Joe) think media should be consumed. Not everyone does it the same way. For some folks (like myself), we like knowing as little as possible. And it DOES enhance the experience! Some viewers derive joy out of knowing a skeleton is going to pop out of a room and the anticipation of it, and seeing how it builds up. Or maybe they want a heads up because of their skeletonphobia. I derive joy out of being surprised by the skeleton because I had no idea a skeleton was going to pop out. Then I get a different kind of joy on a rewatch, feeling that anticipation.
If you don't care about spoilers, go ahead and have things spoiled for you all you want. You are controlling your own experience that way. Please be kind and let us control ours, especially if it's something that wasn't revealed in marketing beats.

I mostly see spoilers as just a litmus test for if someone is capable of being considerate or not. It's a very easy thing to put a spoiler warning on something you want to share. And for those who are film critics where their job is to post a current review that aims to tell people "Should you see this or not?" they should be able to get their point across without spoiling anything. If they can't, then they're not very good writers. Someone who wants to write more of a deep dive and examine different aspects of a film probably can't avoid spoilers, but again, we go back to the common decency check where if they are upfront about the spoilers to come then all is good.

Was surprised that this bundle was a thing when it was announced but signed up right away. saves like $12 since I had the two separately. if these services want to play nice and just do a big mega-bundle, I could get on board

They might be taking the hit for the audience. Only one patreon I support has actually mentioned the fee since it was reported on, and that patreon urged apple users to sub on the web

I started the Perfect Blue book but didnβt finish it. You quickly learn why the movie barely followed the book because itβs really trashy.

I just ordered two Charles Portis books from my local bookstore. Henry deserves an honorarium from the Portis estate in addition to his outstanding Disney Corp. dividends.
