The Talking Simpsons 10th Anniversary Spectacular

It's finally happened: Talking Simpsons has turned a whopping ten years old! And to ring in the occasion, we're replacing this month's episode of Talk to the Audience with a little—well, BIG—celebration of ourselves. Listen in to hear us discuss our humble roots, the many growing pains of running a podcast network, and the future of talking about an animated series with no end in sight. And, as a special treat, we respond to your questions and comments about a decade of cartoon cromulence. Who knows what adventures we'll have between now and the time the show becomes unprofitable?

New opening and closing themes by Miles Morkri. And thanks so much to everyone who contributed to this episode!

When I started listening around 2018, I was pleasantly surprised to discover the queer perspective Henry brings from personal experience (and Bob too, being a thoughtful ally). So many animation pundits, but especially Simpsons focused ones, boil down to a group of straight guys discussing what jokes they did and didn't like (Seinfeld voice: Not that there's anything wrong with that!) I think I was further cemented as a full-time fan when I discovered that you have (what I consider) good politics; also refreshing when animation is s often discussed in a cultural vacuum. The broader historical context you provide and the deeply impressive research you do has always been deeply impressive to me, so much so that you're the only Patreon I subscribe to at the highest tier (the salary of an animator is also a factor but y'know). One last specific compliment I have to share is that you both have very distinct voices which is not always a given in podcasts. There are shows I've been listening to for years and still struggle to distinguish between the hosts. At some point in the future, expect me to DM to gauge your interest in lending your voices to a project for my YouTube channel. Your voices have been in my ear while I've animated for the past 7 years, so it's a matter of time before I find a role one or both of you would be suited for. My channel is @joshuamartiancartoons if you're curious. My Clone High short may pique your interest. Thanks again for hundreds of hours of quality infotainment and here's to another decade!

Great episode, and wishing you guys many more 10-year-increments! I'll also speak to a desire to hear more anime episodes, I got back into anime with One Piece over the pandemic and have been longing for more coverage (I actually tend not to listen to many of the western-animation What a Cartoons). With some recent, accessible classics like Frieren, Delicious in Dungeon, and Apothecary Diaries on Netflix, I wonder if these might be good gateway series to do? I'd also welcome spotlights on other really interesting properties like Odd Taxi, Orb, The Night is Short Walk On Girl, Redline, or any movies by Mamoru Hosoda. Here's hoping we get more Animated about Anime talk soon...

I think that there's actually a lot of anime and video game crossover with your audience and not to rag on some of the series choices made by your patrons, but a lot of them were mid at best.

Congrats on a decade of outstanding achievement in the field of excellence! Been a listener since it was on another network and there were three hosts on the show, and I can't wait to see what the next decade will bring!

I didn't see or delete any comment from you so Patreon must have eaten it (that sometimes happens).

Damn, why was my comment deleted? All I was talking about was how I loved the show and when I found it and it was a huge comfort in my life.

So happy for you, this is my favourite podcast :)

Cleveland Show was the only animated show that was able to get David Lynch to be a regular character, so that's got to count for something. If you cover it, maybe you'll attract the Lynchian contingent of the podcast world.
