That Bit Extra — "I guess I deserved that one..."

So this is an unedited snippet of the consequences of being nosey. It's not as bad as it could have gone considering it's M, but still...

The ease with which the conversation flows encourages me on, and I turn to face ${m_him} fully. "You really remember nothing at all?"

$!{m_she} shakes ${m_his} head, then looks down at ${m_his} chest. "Well, I have this." $!{m_she} tugs up the roughly facted crystal which always hangs around ${m_his} neck. "I had it on when I woke up after losing my memories."

"And it siphons off your power, right?" I ask, trying to remember what I read in ${m_his} file.

"Partly." $!{mason}'s narrowed gaze then slides slowly over to mine. "Wait. How the hell did you know that?"

I freeze on the spot, my throat tightening as I try to mumble on a reply. "I think I saw it somewhere…[i]in your personnel file…[/u]." My voice strangles on the last part.

"You looked me up?" ${m_she} asks through a monotone voice.

I hesitate to nod.

$!{m_his} stare takes in the length of me before blowing out a breath. "I don't know whether to be annoyed or impressed."

"I'm hoping you're leaning more towards the impressed," I comment with a sheepish look.

"Not right now."

I look away and rub at the back of my neck. "Sorry."

$!{m_she} shoves ${m_him}self up from the wall and nods at my bedroom door. "You better get some sleep." $!{m_she} then treads away back down the hall to ${m_his} own room.

"Wait," I call. "What else does it do?"

$!{m_she} waves a hand back at me. "Maybe you should look it up."

I cringe. I guess I deserved that one….
