I have a friend in the same situation. For me, I personally don't play romance games when in a relationship b/c I don't want that person to feel there is a standard they need to live up to. These characters aren't real and everyone wants a little fantasy in their lives. I 100% agree with Fallabeau that you should have the conversation with your IRL partner and they shouldn't force you to stop if you enjoy it. Stories like Mishka's are a wonderful, safe escape from a very grim world for some ppl and if romance games give you a chance to feel that safe space or explore a part of yourself you aren't ready to share with the world, then no partner should keep you from that.

If your partner is expressing concern that games (of any kind) are taking a lot of your free time, maybe consider setting time aside in your week specifically for just them. For sure, it's important to have your own things for self-care, but sometimes we also need to set time aside to nurture our relationships too. <3 It's not right or wrong if a partner feels romance games and similar things are cheating imo. But if you like romance games and your partner doesn't want you to play them even after you talk to them about boundaries and stuff, then you two just aren't compatible. They'll find someone who fits their needs and you'll find someone who supports your interests and even enjoys participating them as well. For instance, I know tons of couples enjoy playing BG3 and romancing the characters. It doesn't cause a rift between them and actually makes their IRL relationship even stronger bc they bond over mutual love of the game. If a partner makes you give up something you enjoy, it'll only foster resentment and it could be a bit of a red flag that they are controlling/dont respect your boundaries. It's not wrong of them to be bothered by a personal interest or hobby you have (we've all got our perspectives and opinions and stuff), but it's not okay if they force you to give it up when you don't want to. If they just cant reconcile within themselves that you like playing things like Wayhaven and adore Mishka's swoon-worthy characters, then it means you guys just aren't ideally matched at the end of the day. And that's totally okay! Doesn't make either of you bad partners or un-dateable. There's nothing at all wrong with either of you for having your own preferences. Just means there's a better match for both of you other than each other. It sucks when that happens, but it'll be okay. There's plenty of fish in the sea for you both! Hope this helps answer your question and hope it wasn't too long. It's not necessarily the "correct" answer, but hopefully, my view gives you some food for thought. :)
