The movie is alittle different than the book. I saw the movie first when I was a teenager and then years later I read the book, & all I could imagine was scenes from the movie and how things were different. But Nicholas Sparks is a great author, he has many many books and a lot of them have been made into movies. I’ll list a few below. Also, FUN FACT, Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling won best kiss in 2005 for MTV awards & they recreated the kiss when they accepted their award. I will admit I’m no fan of Nicolas Sparks novels as I find the reading very basic and similar in difficulty to read as Goosebumps. And I’m certainly not opposed to love stories if people question that. I think Atonement is a GREAT love story for example. But usually a story has a build up and you reach the climax where a decision must be made. In this film it felt like the payoff of the climax wasn’t the grand finale but just sparklers. I mean that the ultimate climax or question is whether McAdams chooses Gosling or the other guy, but if you paid attention they already told you that information in the middle of the film when the identified the two in the nursing home/assisted living. So even though you want her to choose him. You KNOW she chose him. So the payoff was a dud.

2023-05-08 16:34:59 +0000 UTCDang it, this is the third time I’ve seen this movie and I still sob at the end. Rachael McAdams filmed this movie the same year as Mean Girls. Maybe it was her dark hair that made her look older or the magic of makeup and costume making her look 17 in Mean Girls, but she was 26. 🙂 One of my favorite rom-coms is Crazy, Stupid, Love which also has Ryan Gosling as the lead along with Emma Stone, Steve Carrell, and Julianne Moore. It’s definitely much more of a comedy than this one and if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it! Asia, if you want something closer to this movie, A Walk To Remember is another one based on a Nicolas Sparks novel. Also very good.

One question I have always had is whether the place they were was the original house he built? Great reaction guys.

The first time I watched the movie, I told myself I'll never watch it again as it made me cry a lot... but here I am lol True love never dies <3 This story always reminds me of my parents, whose love has always been something I hope to achieve one day. Every time I thought about it I cried. I watched it with my husband when we first started dating. We are still married, 16 years and still going strong. This movie means a lot to me because I understand that kind of love. I can only hope that our love will take us together too 😭😭😭

After the movie came out, they were a couple in real life for a while. Every time I watch this movie, I start balling at the scene towards the end when they are dancing and then she doesn’t know who he is. The look on his face when the nurses are trying to calm her down just breaks my heart. 😩💔

They died 12 days apart in 2020 (mom on Oct 29 & dad on Nov 10) while in the same hospital. I definitely teared up at the end of the movie thinking of them.

I highly recommend A Walk To Remember. I think the female lead character was based on his own sister. Actually I recommend all of them 💜💜💜

I’m so glad you did this movie! ♥️ Ryan Gossling and Rachel McAdams ended up dating for quite a while after this movie (when it was filmed he was dating Sandra Bullock). Also, that was not Chopsticks she was playing (she was joking saying “what do you want me to play, Chopsticks?” because that is a very simple tune often played with two fingers).
