Cyberslayers PART I

Here is the new project: Cyberslayers, Part I

My goal is to release within a month a concept demo of my next game, Cyberslayers.

The demo will follow the adventures of a mutant hunter in a cyberpunk universe called Kassiah.

It will unfold as a Visual Novel with RPG elements. It won't be a simple click to follow a story unfolding, there will be elements to unlock based on your actions.

I The Universe

Change of atmosphere after Leridia, our heroine will evolve in a futuristic world oriented cyberpunk in the megalopolis of Zenon.

A sprawling city located in the middle of a desert, in a hostile world that has undergone profound mutations following a virus. A politically and economically autonomous city thanks to the "Dark Matter", a precious source of energy.

The city has a police state regime and is divided into sectors: Alpha, Beta, Gamma ... which have their own peculiarities and where humans and mutants live side by side.

I want to put some Blade Runner feeling.

II Our Heroine

This is Kassiah, a 19-year-old girl. She's a Female Slayer, a mutant hunter. She takes contracts to harvest Dark Matter.

She's part of a special group, luring mutants with her feminine assets unlike normal slayers...

But why would she do this ? More info on a specific post later.

III A novel visual approach at first glance

The first contact with the demo is a classic visual novel approach. You follow Kassiah's story in this universe and interact with other characters.

But the dialogues don't scroll automatically, you have to choose what to do in "sets", which gives you a lot of possibilities with the addition of rpg elements. Here is for example the first scene in game where you can be free to make your choices.

Nothing exceptional so far, other games offer "Point and click" actions...

However, I decided to make the interactions more interesting and to enrich them with a system of skills and points to be attributed to the Heroine.

Here, for example, I've taken over Leridia's pentagram system and by clicking on the green symbol with the right skill, a special event will take place.

Here is an example of interactions at the dialogue level. Variables will open up new possibilities and Kassiah's skills will unlock new dialogues or even exclusive scenes with this or that character.

Kassiah is obviously annoyed at first with everything related to the theme of corruption and gravelly allusions. Otherwise it wouldn't be fun, would it?

III "Phantasm" skills

Let's take a closer look at skills by taking a simple example.

Here Kassiah is outside, she can search the surrounding area. I tried my best to give some "cyberpunk" atmosphere there.

 She can decide to search the garbage cans to her right but she won't find anything special. 

Now let's unlock the skill with the specific points (which will be discussed in more detail in a future post) "Perception Lv.1".  It's in her Datapad, a special rpg like menu.

Thanks to this skill, she has a better perception and hop...some bonus credits!

In the second part, we will approach the combat system and the system of corruption through the "Hacking" of her internal software "Phantasm".

Again, this is some kind of story related and to show demo stuff and mechanics. Kassiah should not be the heroine of the main project.

This may not be a popular opinion but I would strongly recommend working on Kassiah's outfit. I understand the style is much aligned with previous work but as a new IP you really can play around and add to the theme of the game. The sailormoon bikini does make it hard to believe Kassiah's innocence and feels like a wasted opportunity. Either way I'm in and excited to play the demo :)

Venus

Always have been a great fan of Cyberpunk setting so very excited about this game. The preview pictures look very promising. They show that you invested already a great deal of thoughts into it. Can't wait to see Kassiah, and her hinted friends, in action.

I understand and fully aware of the outfit and her corruption state. Hard to explain without playing the demo. It is, like the "slayer"' story related. This is the heroine from the demo, at a certain stage, I have things in mind for the real game starting with a very shy/prude girl... I like to have links with Leridia with Slayers and Pentagrams, it is my touch but don't worry the story will be completely different. This is also a concept demo to show things : gameplay, outfit. The fact that she's slutty is for the demo...but I have also to show the corruption mechanics at the start, so don't pay attention to that. So yeah, the corruption will be related to the outfit the heroine wears in the real game too.

Looks nice. There are 2 points I'm wondering about though. First, do they have to be called "slayers" again? The second point is that you point out she doesn't start out corrupted or slutty, but THAT is how she looks. I know it won't change anything storywise, but if she does fall to lust eventually, I prefer to have it be conveyed visually as well. Like she finds she can't use her "feminine assets" at the start because her clothes and attitude don't cut it for targets who are more jaded, being used to more extreme things, and she reluctantly has to go more extreme in her outfits, behavior and how far she's willing to go. It's just weird to me to have a character that's averse to anything to explicit/dirty, but she has no problems wearing something that's THIS revealing going into a job that boils down to seduce targets.
