Doran technically doesn‘t know about any assassination attempt. He only knows about the knecklace from Myrcella they sent to Kingslanding. And when they fought in the water gardens, Ellaria and the sandsnakes might just say „We simply fought off invaders.“. Doran might think, that Ellaria simply wanted to provoke the Lannisters, but not kill any of them. It‘s still a bit weird, but kinda plausible. He simply couldn‘t think of her as a killer of an innocent child.

Oh how time went so slow after that ending, and it was really harder for us the book readers not knowing after that. But it made us realize how much we loved the story itself.

“Finally, some good news!” Famous last words...hahahaha! I too expected a more emotional reaction from you out of that, but understand you’re in denial. A lot of us were. Some of us might have followed some fan theories, and closely examined his body at the last scene over, and over again. Not saying I did, but yeah, this is where the books end, so far, and we had a year to kill, so.... Something about Melisandre that you didn’t address, so don’t know if you caught it, but notice how she’s all wrapped up when she arrives at Castle Black. She’s cold. Earlier she’s dressed totally inappropriately for the weather, and when Jon remarked on this she declared that “the lord’s fire keeps me warm.” So, she’s totally broken as well. Also notice that she doesn’t tell Davos how Shireen died, so he has no idea.

It’s not clarified in the show, but I believe the magic of the Faceless Men allows them all to take on each other’s appearances without needing their face to do so. (It’s also magic that changes their bodies when they put on a mask)
