I meant that because Jonathan is living in a single-parent household that is struggling financially, he has to think about things like "how are we going to pay the bills?" I meant that having to go find work while he's in high school out of necessity made him grow up a little faster. Wasn't trying to say anything about family size and maturity or healthiness of a family. I've actually never considered whether the dynamics of a larger family vs. smaller one because a smaller one is all I've known. Hmm maybe I can edit to make it clearer before this goes up on YouTube though!
