I’m down with changing the score for 6x10! Though I’d give this one a 1.5 myself - I kind of hate it...this is the only time I’ve been able to bring myself to rewatch the full ep since it aired. I wonder if you would’ve rated winds of winter higher had you not previously figured out Jon’s parents? That was an enormous shock for most show watchers (who don’t also follow theories), and meant everything to book readers who’d been awaiting that confirmation more or less for decades

I think trying to kill the lesser white walkers didn't make sense but killing the Night King would have...it's just a matter of they never would have made it maybe?

I also subscribe to the Night King Greenseer theory. He knew those dragons were eventually gonna get beyond the wall. And I always thought that she sent Brienne away so that she wouldn't have to choose between her and arya.

People have so many complaints about this episode, but this is the only one that actually bothers me. He was running from wights in 6x6, threw Meera and a crippled Bran on his horse WITH HIM, and still outran them.

And I'm sorry but why couldn't Benjen get on that horse? When he rescued Bran and Meera from the wights in 6x6 they escaped with 3 people on a horse with no issue. Come on, you couldn't even try? How long does it take to jump on a horse anyway? Probably less time than it takes to talk about it! OK I'm done complaining for now. Sorry people. I had to get that out of my system.

I love how epic and beautifully shot this episode is yet hate it for all the dumb things that happen in it. I think the worst part is when Beric Donderrion suggests they try to kill the Night King because "he turned them all" and Jon says no because they have to take the wight to king's landing. WTF?! If they killed the Night King and his army they wouldn't need Cersei's help anymore because the war would be over. Am I missing something here???

This episode made me realize 2 things about the NK: 1/ he is probably a very powerful warg and 2/ he is a greenseer - like Bran. To me, the reveal that killing a WW kills the wights he created confirms something I noticed in 6.5: the NK controls all the wights he created. He is multiwarging. Not only does he raise the dead, he also inhabits their bodies (like Bran did with Hodor). In 6.5, when Bran disobeys the 3ER and wanders into a vision alone, we see him walking among the dead and they look very still and ignore him; then he realizes the NK is here too and stares at him. When the NK stares back at him, THE WHOLE ARMY suddenly stares at him. It is not a coincidence. Back to this episode, the NK had the army bring boat chains from Hardhome. He KNEW dragons would came. He saw it. He travels through time, just like Bran.

Rewatch the Arya-Sansa scene (well... you did when you edited the reaction). Arya does something very important prior to seemingly threatening Sansa. Something that echoes her training at the House of Black and White.

Hmm I can certainly see that. XD I can ignore some plot holes in favor of a heightened cool factor though lol

This episode is definitely a roller coaster ride that I enjoyed in the moment, but afterwards too many things started to bug me. XD People have come up with decent arguments for certain contrivances over the past couple years, but I still can't help but feel that the reason for the whole episode was to get the Night King a dragon, and everything was reverse-engineered from that, to the detriment of the story. That's just my opinion, though, and I'm glad that you enjoyed it! I can't believe you're only one episode away from being caught up!

Also, I still sort of wonder if Benjen knows who Jon is, so it’s more than sacrificing his life for his nephew. He did tell Bran that the Three-Eyed Raven sent for him, so he has that connection, and it’s possible that Jon looks a lot like Lyanna, and Benjen never bought that Ned cheated on Cat.

Yeah, isn’t it funny how the Night King was totally prepared for dragons to show up? Almost makes you wonder if he knew it was all going to happen.... hmm.
A lot of people comment on the chains. I think it isn’t totally unreasonable that he could have gotten he chains from various settlements he destroyed, like, say, Hardhome. Also, I think the symbolism matters, because Daenerys is the breaker of chains, and likes to toss out the slogan “a dragon is not a slave.” Just a theory, but it’s the best I can come up with in TWO YEARS of thinking about it. :)
Additionally, yes, theoretically two people can ride a horse, but two grown men is going to slow it way down, so it couldn’t have moved fast enough to get Jon out of reach of the Walkers, and to the Wall before he froze to death.

I've always assumed that Benjen choosing the sacrifice himself was a combination of buying more time for John to escape and the fact that the children's magic prevented him from crossing the wall. John was hypothermic, injured and needed to get back ASAP, two people would have slowed the horse down thus Benjen saying there was no time.
