A couple of months later, Ed got the surgery to have his automail attached, and finished his recovery when he was 12 and Al was 11. At 12, Ed became a State Alchemist. At the time the series starts, Ed is 15 or 16 - the manga author never officially revealed when Ed's birthday is, but the original anime had it sometime in winter.

Even though they can be a bit spoilery, I think it's still worth watching and reacting to them because they're so well-made. Therefore I'm glad that you don't skip the intros, thanks!
