2021-07-26 19:30:45 +0000 UTCVERY late to this reaction, lmfao, but this is my favorite trivia of the movie. Jimmy Stewart went to war, and came back very changed. I am not sure if he even wanted to act, but he did this movie for the meaning behind it. It was the first time many people saw ptsd displayed on screen. Some of those scenes weren't acting, but him remembering war situations. Even his friends commented about it. Like the scene where he was praying in Nick's bar Jimmy was having flashbacks and that was why he was crying

2019-12-22 04:46:01 +0000 UTCIt was a much tougher world back then and definitely during WW2 when almost everybody you knew got shipped off to war. The majority of people today have no concept of it.

2019-12-21 22:04:50 +0000 UTCDefinitely interesting to see how people faced the same problems as we do now, somewhat dealt with it with the New Deal, and then slid back to more wealth inequality. It's nice to know that we've been successful in the past, but that it can't be taken for granted. Constant struggle against those who would abuse their power. But yes, major kudos to the film!

2019-12-17 00:43:12 +0000 UTCThis film really surprised me when I first watched it, whilst it has aged in some ways especially with the way George and Mary's relationship was progressed with the whole bush scene and him shaking her that def wouldn't run if it was made at this current moment, but it was a product of its time and I'd say that's a valid complaint to have for the film. However, it's selfless and anti-capitalistic message at its core was what really surprised me; it's not something I would have expected from an American film from the 40s. The message runs true even today because unfortunately, it has just gotten worse with the wealth inequality and people getting more and more into debt, I think it's why this story aligns so well even today and they still relate so well to George's story and how George's attitude towards Potter and millionaire's was very refreshing to see in film and more radical than I expected from this film.
