This is one of the things I love about Game of Thrones. The title of each episode almost always has multiple meanings. As a word person, I really dig that. Second Sons referred, of course, to Daario’s sellswords, but also to Tyrion, Stannis, and The Hound. Cersei kind of hit the nail on the head in season 1 when she told Ned that the firstborn is raised to rule and the second son is raised to follow. Ned would have never been Lord of Winterfell if his older brother hadn’t been killed. Ned wasn’t raised to be a ruler and that’s kinda why he wasn’t so great at navigating the politics and bull crap. Additionally, this might lead you to ask, “So what’s in store for a third son?” In the Stark family, Benjen went to the wall because he knew there would be little chance of lands or titles to inherit. It is an interesting world that GRRM built.
