You’re exactly right, and for all stages of production, not just writers! The fact that seemingly no one with power to make changes throughout the process of writing, story boarding, shooting, & editing that scene called it out is disappointing and concerning, indicating a serious lack of inclusion

The writers’ room for lots of television shows and movies need more diversity. It reminds me of that picture I saw on FB once where a store had a blown-up pool float on display that looked very much like a woman’s sanitary device, and the caption stated something like, “If only they had one woman in the room when this idea was pitched....” Haha!

My mans is way too smart to not mention white savior complex. I feel that in the books it’s less awful because slaves are never specified to be of certain races or not of certain races. Also, there was not some weird crowd surfing bit. So it was less about praising her for being “not awful.” And more about “okay, business as usual, on to the next.” I feel like the show runners wanted a victorious ending to a really hard season, and it was just a small misstep. That is a large reason I wished there was a more diverse writing and directing staff for GoT. Less missteps in a show that is quite good otherwise.
