Oh yeah I know there's a lot of Chinese influence on the Korean language but wouldn't have caught the one-man thing. That's interesting!
That's an interesting point your raised about willingness to give out money. It does feel like there's this ingrained idea in a lot of society that poor people are poor because they waste money and rich people are rich because they use it wisely.
Sorry to hear you didn't like the show that much, but I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it more watching it with me :)

One more thing. The title of the episode 'One lucky day' is a direct allusion of the 1920s Korean novel 'One lucky day'. Since the novel is widely known as a National Classic, every Korean audiences knew what will happen with Gi-hun's mom.

1. Talking about a pun, the name Oh Il-nam itself seems to giving some hints to Korean audiences.
In Korean, 'O-jing-Eo' (오징어, [ɔ dʒiŋ ʌ]) means 'Squid'. The first syllable of the word 'O' matches Il-nam's family name 'Oh'.
I don't know how to write 'Il-nam' in Chinese character, but it sounds suspiciously similar to '一男', which can be roughly translated to 'The first man' or 'One man'.
When you combine those family name and given name, you get 'The first man of the Squid'. Considering that Il-nam was the player 001, and also the founder of the squid game, I think that naming was the hint in plain sight all along.
2. One interesting point to think about. People treated Gi-hun like a bum when Gi-hun really needed 10,000 won.
But when he had his money untouched in the bank account, the man in the bank lend him 10,000 won without asking why. EVEN THOUGH Gi-hun didn't needed that money since he already got a ton of money sleeping in his account.
That speaks a lot. Why people don't help out those who really need their help, or lending money with a deadly-high interest rate, while lending money with less interest to those who are already uber-rich?
3. I didn't like the show that much over all, but to watching it again with you made it a much better experience. Thank you. : )
