Oof. Sorry to hear that! It definitely feels like many neighborhoods become more and more generic as big businesses take over or online retailers consolidate market share. I think there's only one pet store left in walking distance from where I am because so many died out years and years ago when Amazon was taking the world by storm. I'm happy any company is able to carve out business from Amazon, but definitely wish people chose to patronize local business first.

I know for some people this may be a good company with better policies then Amazon (not hard to be honest), but as a member of a family owned pet store that works very hard to be as good to the customer as possible (including us literally driving all over the city personally to get deliveries to customers same day free of charge, or anywhere in USA for less then $5) it’s always sad to see all the chewy boxes all over porches including our neighbors. The product maybe cheaper (because large companies can buy products from the makers for much less due to level of amount of product purchased. Like because we are so small we get only five bags of food for example, but chewy probably buys hundreds, so they can get a much lower purchase price and can thus sell for less.). One leash we sell I noticed sells on Chewy for the same we wholesaled it from, so it’s almost impossible to compete on a price standpoint. Where local places can shine is the delivery aspect, which can be so much more for Chewy when you total it up then local places. But sadly a lot of people only notice the initial price. The number of people who walk into out store and look at a thing we have and then say…”oh I saw this on chewy for less let’s just get it there” is very disheartening. Once we loose local downtown businesses and only support online, all cities will slowly become ghost towns and it’s already happening in so many places.
