I'm enjoying the story too! Maybe I just miss all the RWBY characters so much. Either way, I watched all three first episodes in a movie-like format on Crunchyroll when they first came out, and now I'm back to waiting for one episode per week. Currently having serious withdrawal symptoms lol

Ren's sakura petals are likely from the fact that he's from Chinese culture. Jaune's symbol you can see on his shield. No idea what the deal is with Blake's though.
