2019-12-31 16:37:23 +0000 UTCWell, May Chang and Ling Yao ARE related - they're both the children of the Emperor, so they're half-siblings. Ling is the 12th born, and we find out a little later that May is the 19th born. It's not really a spoiler since she's admitted that she's trying to save her clan the same way Ling is trying to save his. May had to come to Amestis by herself because her clan is so low ranked and poor - they couldn't afford to send anyone with her except Shao May, while Ling's clan is more powerful, so he was able to bring Lan Fan and Fu with him. It's a big fan theory that Ling has a condition of some kind that causes him to keep collapsing, but it's never been confirmed by the manga creator, as far as I've been able to find. And the manga author is very good about giving every character a backstory (including the panda!)
