haha Olivier just grew out her curl :) Interesting that automail is exclusive to Amestris! I'm sure that'd change after a few decades with inevitable globalization.

2020-03-11 13:15:24 +0000 UTCMeet one of the most badass characters in this show - Major General Armstrong is a fan-favorite, for a lot of reasons. As far as a family resemblance to her brother, Major Armstrong....it's there, it's just subtle. The hair over her face is supposed to be her version of the single curl in the center of his forehead, they're both devoted to the military and to Amestris and the well-being of its citizens. It's stated by Bradley in the manga, after the incident with the first Greed that Major Armstrong has never been promoted because Bradley views him as too soft-hearted - not that Major Armstrong doesn't want to be promoted. Think about what Miles said about her views on defending the country, and think about how she would view her brother's actions in Ishval. Briggs doesn't have any State Alchemists assigned to it as far as we are ever told, so R&D would be important to the north. A good chunk of the rest of the country's science is based on alchemy, but if they don't use alchemists up north, they'd have to come up with the technology they need to defend the borders. On the west, there are border skirmishes with Creta, with active fighting. In the south, Amestris is having skirmishes with Aeurgo (mainly because Aeurgo supported Ishval with weapons and supplies during the war), and on the east is the desert, which is the only truly peaceful border now that Ishval has been taken care of. Ed mentions they have a tentative non-agression treaty with Drachma in the north, but they still maintain a watch on the border, and I believe that Briggs is stationed at the only place where Drachma could hope to get an army through the mountains without having to either march through Aeurgo, or take their troops around to the east to come from the desert. As far as it's implied, automail is actually exclusive to Amestris. Lan Fan knew about it because she saw Ed's, not because it was something that is known all over. You are correct in that Winry should come to install Ed's winter automail, because she does know Ed's body the best. She installed his original automail with her grandmother's help, and she's been his mechanic all along. Buccaneer's mechanic is the guy who took Al's head off his chainsaw arm, so he's most likely the one who installed it in the first place.
