Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood 36 Family Portrait Early Reaction!

Comments

Yes! I'm enjoying Hoenheim a lot more than I thought I would earlier in the series. I kinda love Sloth lol but I love Olivier more.

Hoenheim is one of the best developed characters in this series - for the longest time we only have Ed's perspective on his father, but the manga author slips very subtle hints that there's more to him than we first thought. The photo is a very interesting plot point - until we get the reveal of it in this episode, Hoenheim's face has always been covered, so it was leaving an interesting plot thread dangling. If you think about it, Ed and Al were pretty young when he left, so Hoenheim really knows nothing about his sons at all - what seemed like sternness or even cruelty when they met at Trisha's grave could just be him trying to build some rapport and explain to Ed what he did was wrong, but Ed had too much bitterness from being abandoned. Hoenheim did say in that episode that Ed was exactly like he was when Hoenheim was Ed's age, so he clearly recognizes himself in his son. Sloth is probably the funniest of the homunculi, with his reactions to everything. "Such a pain". Greed might have some of the best sarcastic remarks, especially after he joins with Ling, but for pure comedic timing, Sloth is one of the best. On the other hand, this is just another example of Olivier Mira Armstrong being a complete badass. She is high enough rank to be playing a very dangerous game, especially since the upper echelon of the Amestrian military are all involved in this plan. Killing Raven is a hugely calculated risk - Raven is a Lieutenant General, and she's a Major General - Raven will be missed eventually, and Bradley is going to know that the north was the last place he went. Also, despite what she said in the last episode about being pleased if Mustang would fall from power, she still sends a message to him via the flower lady.
