Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood 37 The First Homunculus Early Reaction!

Thanks for the recommendation! And the part about Kimblee is really fascinating O_O

Interesting distinction of being able to send his consciousness to different places as opposed to being in mutliple places at once!

If you never read anything else from the manga, I recommend you check out volume 15, which covers all the events of Ishval. Rather than spacing out the flashbacks as the show does, we got pretty much all of them at the same time in the manga. Not only do you get a lot more brutal details about the war, but you get more character moments with Winry's parents, Dr. Marcoh and Dr. Knox, etc. But, pertaining to this episode, you also see Kimblee coming across Winry's parents' bodies after Scar had killed them. He does indeed find a photo of Winry they'd been keeping with them. What he neglects to mention is that he wasn't sent there to save them - but instead had been given orders to kill them by the military as they were saving Ishvalan lives. Scar just happened to get it done before he got there. But on the scene of their bodies he does express the same sentiment he gives to Winry: he admires the doctors who stuck to their conviction. Great reaction, as usual! Oh, and I think Pride let the Briggs people in the tunnel go because he was distracted by Hawkeye's arrival back in Central. The way the eye moves in the tunnel indicates Pride's attention is caught by something, and the following scene implies the rest.

Kimblee was lying about trying to help Winry's parents. Remember when we heard about Scar's backstory - he basically ambushed them while he was out of his mind with pain and rage - Winry's father tried to shield his wife in the split second before Scar killed them - there wouldn't have been time for them to grab a photo of Winry as they were dying. Now, Kimblee does have a pretty firm idea of morality and he appreciates those who stick to their convictions - he's a psychopath and a sociopath, but I do believe that he was sincere in viewing what the Rockbells did as heroic, including the fact that they died doing their duty. The only part he lied about was how they were found because he was trying to get Winry on his side. Pride is one of those sorts of villains that makes you want to sleep with the lights off. Think about what happened - he was in Briggs, about to attack the soldiers in the tunnel, but something caught his attention (Hawkeye coming to the mansion) and he withdrew and allowed them to escape. He can send his consciousness to different places, but he's not really "in" multiple places at once. He is definitely very powerful though. Ed's in a rough spot - if he doesn't follow Bradley's orders to help Kimblee, he could be arrested and court-martialed, assuming Kimblee doesn't kill him first. But he has his own convictions about not killing anyone, so how far is this situation going to drive him? He's very smart, but is he smart enough to outwit Kimblee, even with Al and Winry's help?
