I've heard Sheska disappeared, which is a shame, but I am really impressed that all these characters have their storylines that all feel important

Pride is a fun villain - he's so seriously creepy, and the fact that we don't know the limits of his power at this point in the series makes him even better and throws a wrench into the heroes' plans. Another view of General Armstrong - she is an amazingly nuanced character, considering that she's such a late addition to the cast, not showing up until about halfway through it, unlike the other characters of Ed, Al, Winry, Mustang, Hawkeye, Scar and even Dr. Marcoh. One of the things that is so great about this series is that no character is really wasted - everyone has some role to play. There's a few one-off characters, like the parents of the baby Winry delivered, and some of her automail clients, but any "named" character isn't just used and written off. Yoki is definitely an unreliable narrator. FMA 2003 has a whole episode devoted to the Youswell incident (and remember the name of that town, because it will come up again - that's not a spoiler, it's just something to watch for). You should watch that series eventually too - it's fun in a different way. Some of the early episodes will be VERY similar and cover a lot of the same ground, but the two series do branch off eventually - Brotherhood is faithful to the manga, while FMA went its own separate direction once they'd caught up with the manga, which was still being written at the time it aired. This is kinda the tipping point for the series - from here on out, it's going to be pedal to the metal and the series is going to keep ramping up until we reach the end.
