Skyfall Early Movie Reaction!

Comments

Cool, thanks!

I agree. I love Skyfall but Casino Royale is still my favourite. Regarding old Bond movies, I strongly recommend Goldeneye. Same director as Casino Royale too. However, be warned: Casino Royale felt like a reboot where they treated things more seriously so as good as Goldeneye is, it still harkens back to the old Bondisms such as Bond carelessly womanizing, other cheesy stuff, etc.

Rogue Agent

Oh wow, thank you for sharing that information! Glad you enjoyed the reaction!

Since Skyfall was a celebration of 50 years of the James Bond franchise, there are bunch of nods to the Classic Bond films like you guessed. Daniel Craig version of Bond was a Re-imagined, updated version from the classics, and what Skyfall tried to do was bring a bit of classic flavor back to the franchise to celebrate. 1) In Classic Bond films, Miss Moneypenny is Secretary to M, whom Bond like to flirt lightly. Even though Miss Moneypenny was recurring character, her background story was never been told. Miss Moneypenny was absent for Casino Royale and Quantom Of Solace. I'm not so sure why, but I can easily guess that the depiction of the flirting relationship between Bond and Moneypenny at working environment may have been considered as inappropriate and out of date for 21st century. So in Skyfall, when Eve reveal her name at the very last, it was nice surprise. And it did justice for Miss Moneypenny, giving her a proper back story, and prove she was capable for more than plain desk job indeed. 2) Until the Pierce Brosnan years, Q was an old man who gave Bond bunch of CRAZY gadgets all the time. When Skyfall introduced Ben Whishaw as new Q, the reversed age gap between Q and Bond was quite interesting to those fans who remember Q as old man. Fun fact though, Ben Whishaw is technology 'luddite' in his real life. He doesn't even have his own computer. He once said the hardest part of playing Q in Skyfall was to learn how to type fluently. 3) Aston Martin DB5, the vehicle Bond and M rode on their way to Scotland, was actually a Bond car for the very first Bond on screen, Sir Thomas Sean Connery. (You can actually hear the classic Bond theme song when DB5 appears in movie.) 4) In my opinion, Skyfall tried to answer the question why espionage films are relevant, and to redeem itself from the accusation of glorifying western imperialism. To do so, it took a deep dive into the dark side of the espionage game. Treat agents as disposable asset, train one as a heartless killing machine, and betray without hesitation when necessary. I think the film did tremendous job, at the same time celebrating the 50 years. Thanks for the great reaction. Pleasure watching films with your reaction as always. : )
