That’s something as an American looking at American values I will never understand. Why on earth do we allow ourselves to pay taxes without any actual return on our investment? We pay the government to take care of us and the response is to convince us that this is like asking “for a handout.” No… I paid you…it’s not a handout if you pay for it! Lol And the argument that we’d pay far MORE in taxes for these basic services is nonsense and easy to prove wrong by simply looking at tax brackets in other countries where such things DO work. It’s a matter of priorities- and the fact is, the care of the people just isn’t one here.

Don't get me wrong - my country SUCKS, our healthcare system isn't great, but at least it's not great as in, "my friend had to wait for hours at the ER with her sprained ankle" and not "my friend got into ridiculous debt because someone tried to help and called and ambulance for them". I mean, holy shit. Here ambulances rides are free, unless you called one when there was no need (so as a prank or when, for example, you only had sprained wrist and could perfectly well use public transport to get to the hospital). And even then it's much less than 3000 dollars. When I was a kid, I got into an accident where I got paralyzed from waist down due to trauma. We lived in a village out in the sticks so a goddamn helicopter came and transported me to a big hospital so I could be treated. And that's something we all expect here, and we all expect to have this for free, because we understand we pay taxes for this exact reason. Why does US as a country hate its people is beyond me but I do hope it gets better soon for you guys. You know your country is BAD when goddamn POLAND does shit better than you.
