The ending of "sounds about right" isn't a "tamped down emotion". Isn't it the entire essence of what these films are? What type of "less tamped down emotion" would you rather the father have in that moment?

2024-08-22 18:41:55 +0000 UTCOne of the touches I liked the most about the movie is that, while the initial beliefs of Riley are presented as clear facts ("I am a good friend"), the beliefs that come from Anxiety are usually presented as conditionals ("If I'm good at hockey, I'll have friends"). It's a great way of showing how anxiety tends to feed off hypothetical situations instead of reality. Also, that bit at the end when Joy tells Anxiety "We can't control if Riley gets into the team. What can we control?" is something my therapist has told me when dealing with my own anxieties, so it shows Pixar really did their homework. Finally, about the not feeling so much joy when you grow older thing, to be honest I'm much happier now than I was as a child, and I didn't have a bad childhood (nor am I having a particularly spectacular adult life), but I just think I prefer the satisfactions we get as adults (that mostly come from freedom and self determination).
