In the end, the star-touched council caused the thing they had foreseen and tried to prevent themselves. I am not sure why they didn't hold Aravos accountable as well later on, though. Also, it is interesting that typical Dark Magic doesn't seem to require connection or love and that nobody had to tell Callum to cast the spell with love.
