Funny enough one sonic game I highly recommend later on is "the murder of sonic the hedgehog" it was a full fun extremely well done FREE game Sega did for April fools that really shows off individual character personalities, relationships, cool canon Easter eggs you won't see in most games, and awesome gameplay. It's a mostly VN mystery game that's only about 2h to play and is a perfect love letter to the series after checking out other games. Otherwise yeah! as edgy as Shadow is he's not actually a villain in the game series, he's usually portrayed as a rival at most. The games follow a different canon than the movies of course, with Shadow being an experimentally created being that Robotnik's grandad made from the DNA of an alien. Most of the movie is then basically like his intro game. Follow up games have Shadow as kinda a vigilante more likely to use violence than the main heros. The metal bands on him act as limiters, since he cant regulate the excessive chaos energy he makes to the point that if he removed them he'd basically burn through all his energy and die.
