The normalization of it definitely contributes to more and more people gambling and thus developing gambling problems :( Oh yeah that's something that slipped my mind to bring up in the reaction. These streamers just gambling in front of so many impressionable people and losing so much money. Yikes!

2025-03-18 17:08:38 +0000 UTCto me a solution for the extremely high gambling addiction rates is that the companies and apps that put gambling in your phone/computer should be taken away (because there's really no reason for them to exist imo) and then we need far more restrictions and laws surrounding gambling. in many countries gambling itself is illegal and although people may do it illegally in underground scenes, the statistics are not nearly as high as the US where the government allows people to push it in your face and normalize it under the guise of saying it's okay by putting an asterisk with a warning while knowing they rely on people getting addicted to it. and i agree that *some* sports can be bet on based on skill rather than just luck, i have heard the way people break down horse racing by the type of horse, their rider, the temperature, the wind velocity, and type of track etc. but i do think most sports gambling is luck based and that you of course can get addicted even if something is based on skill. also i don't know if you've seen it but i believe drew gooden made a good video on the rise of gambling in the US and how there are even streamers who gamble thousands of dollars away live, i recommend that if you're interested in hearing more on the topic!

2025-03-17 17:02:15 +0000 UTCtbh I'll watch this, but I'm going to stay away from commentary about middle east stuff. Just too triggering for me, even though I'll listen to watch is being said, ect. My anxiety has just been triggered a lot, recently.
