Glad you are touched in this way by this episode! This show is so good. It really excels at portraying complex emotions. Love the comic from the reddit post!

We're here: Reaching Out - my favorite piece of animated media, much less episode. It's no exaggeration to say that I cry every single time I watch this episode, and I've watched it more than a few times. Heck, I'm wiping my eyes as I write this. If I could write as well as this episode, I would be higher up on the Hierarchy of Needs. I've done my best to channel the same balance of fluff and angst into my TOH fic, which revolves around the same themes of trauma and mental health. This episode has so much and covers so many expressions of love — support, appreciation, adoration, awe, shared grief. It's not just about how much it hurts; it's about how to get through to the other side of that pain without diminishing it in any way. The problem isn't FIXED, but it is SHARED. I do think Luz has a touch of PTSD from losing her father at an early age. A lot of people have suggested that the abomaton's siren was meant to evoke an ambulance siren, hence why Luz yells "get out of my head!" when it goes off. There's a lot of heartbreaking fanart around that. For my part, I wish Moringmark's extension to the episode had been canon. https://www.reddit.com/r/TheOwlHouse/comments/u4jjbp/letting_it_out/ Trivia: Luz and Amity were originally slated to have their first kiss in this episode, right after the "I can't wait to pick flowers with you" line. Here's a link to the storyboarded scene: https://acrobat.adobe.com/link/track?uri=urn%3Aaaid%3Ascds%3AUS%3A7754652d-7f4a-387b-9c4d-e2cf4fd65afe&viewer%21megaVerb=group-discover Amity refusing to accept her father's hug is actually a callback to Understanding Willow, when they went into Willow's mind and fixed her memories. "What you did in there? I can't say we're friends, but it's... a start." The nuance and willingness to explore complicated subjects really makes this show unique, and for it to happen in this episode, which is already dealing with grief and trauma...
