2025-05-15 22:05:37 +0000 UTCWhat gets me are the patients, and more often, the families, at the facility where I work as a CNA. I’ll see visitors walking in wearing Make America Great Again hats, and sometimes I overhear them talking about “Democrats,” how kids need a mother and a father, and about crime rates. Honestly, if I hadn’t entered the room when I did, the conversation felt like it was about to turn real racist, real fast. What’s ironic is that these same people rely on us, and let’s be real, the majority of CNAs are people of color, to care for their aging parents. A lot of the nurses are Black. My own aunt is a Black female doctor. And I’ve worked alongside plenty of Asian, Indian, and other minority doctors, nurses, and providers. But to some of these visitors, all they see is “DEI.” Like that person didn’t earn their role as an NP, RN, or MD, they were just handed the position because of diversity initiatives. I’m sorry, but I can’t imagine a facility full of white male CNAs or LPNs. Sure, there are a few scattered here and there, but in my experience, the majority of these roles are filled by women, and especially women of color.
