I think in the game they made it pretty clear that Ellie was going after all of them but was just particularly gung ho about Abby. Your point still stands though! She could have lied and still got the information. Though another part of me wonders if she subconsciously wanted to torture Nora. Now that I think about it, the show doesn't quite go into Ellie's intelligence as much as I think the game does. I wouldn't qualify her as school-smart in the games either, but there's an intellectual curiosity and amazing bullshit detector that doesn't feel quite as on-display in the show, at least for me. Dina's competence also feels like a big contrast in a way I didn't feel in the game.

Tell me where she is, and you save the other three and I'll put you out of your misery. Don't, and I'll leave you here to rot like those dudes in the other room and I'll give that choice to the next one of your friends until I just get to Abby anyway." Idk, seems it would have worked better than "I hit with stick until talk or die." *shrug*
