Came here to make note of this! It's a subtle indicator of Luz's mental health not being the greatest. She's been away from home for months (and let's remember, she's only 14), she just had the anniversary of her father's death, she's been blaming herself for Eda losing her magic and being unable to heal her curse, got tricked by Kikimora... and then the realization that she helped Belos set up a plot which sure looks like it's going to end in mass misery. And even if she gets through it all, she's just promised her mom that she'll leave all of that behind and never return. And that includes never seeing her second mom, surrogate brother, her only friends, or Amity ever again, so she can spend the rest of her days in a world where she doesn't fit in. Poor kid's been going through it. She's earned misremembering a few things.

2025-05-17 18:19:09 +0000 UTCSomething that made me do a double-take when first watching was that Luz actually misremembers what the Collector said. This made me go back and realize she ALSO misremembered what her mom said to her. In moments when Luz is recalling an intense flashback, the wording is usually different, which must be intentional because why wouldn't they just use the same audio/animation? They put in more work to make it different. And the flashback is always more negative than the original: S2, Ep 10 (Yesterday's Lie), Camila: "When you come home, promise you'll stay here. I didn't mean to push you away. I swear things will be different. [...] Promise me, Luz. Please!" S2, Ep 11 (Follies at the Coven Day Parade), Camila in flashback: "Promise me, when you come home you'll stay with me, and you'll never go back to that place. [...] Please!" S2, Ep 16 (Hollow Mind), The Collector: "We'll play forever, me and you, when you paint the land in nine bright hues!" S2, Ep 17 (King's Tide), The Collector in flashback: "Let's slash and rend and crush and bruise! Let's curse the land in nine bright hues!"
