2022-10-09 21:28:31 +0000 UTCAs a Trans demi-girl I really do deeply appreciate your channel and your opinions. I feel safe on your channel and there is not really anywhere else I get that.

2022-10-09 21:10:01 +0000 UTCSometimes the other way of doing names is making sure there are gender opposite versions of them, which is something I've been considering as I do want at least two kids, ect, but have also been thinking about the trans issues with them, too. Example, while I love the name Amelia, and have decided on that one was looking up male versions and loved Emmett./Emery. Kind of what Ellen/Elliot situation

2022-10-09 18:50:43 +0000 UTCoof that is frustating, and sad. And thank you, I was just reminded of it when he mentioned colonoscopy too lol, it is something to look into as like you said survival rate is low, and it's not a pretty disease.

2022-10-09 18:47:46 +0000 UTCFair enough lol. With respect to the role that gender plays in the political discourse, as a pragmatist, it's just frustrating how marginal issues take up so much discourse and coverage. Not to say they don't need to be addressed, but they do allow too much other stuff to fly under the radar. I'd think that issues like addressing climate problems, fixing economy, ensuring that politicians can't override elections and so many other universal issues (that also affect people dealing gender dysphoria) would play the main role in choosing candidates. I'm looking forward to the 3000s when we as a society have solved enough problems that a 3% titanium tax is what's debated on national television between two clones. I just hope Nixon won't be around to throw a wrench in it.

2022-10-09 18:03:16 +0000 UTCYeah, celebrity names can be... a lot. I'm talking about names like Sam (could be short for Samantha) or Alex (could be short for Alexis/Alexandra).

2022-10-09 17:31:49 +0000 UTCI'll just mention a couple of things and step away. Since you asked, naming bothers me because for one it can be very unfortunate (like celebrities often choose to for some reason) and two is that a name has a -so-subtle butterfly effect in a person's life from making first impressions, to fitting in, to being able to be tracked, etc. You don't seem like someone to screw that up, but just as one example, I've met someone whose given name was Omunike (pronounced "I'm unique") and imagine how often they had to have the same conversation after introducing themselves.

2022-10-09 17:28:32 +0000 UTCSadly, I saw a study that said that most people continue to hold onto their beliefs even in the face of data. Kinda sad. I'm sorry to hear about your aunt :(

2022-10-09 15:00:21 +0000 UTCIdk why it would bug you what someone chooses to name their kid. I wasn't saying anyone else should do that or share my opinion. And the difference with Down syndrome is that there is nothing I can do about that. I'm also just not a fan of reinforcing gender norms in the first place. Obviously if I had a partner who felt otherwise, we'd have a discussion and go from there. The thing is, trans issues aren't marginal for the people living through them, and more to the point, we wouldn't have to focus on those issues nearly as much on the political level if Republicans didn't decide to demonize them for political expediency.

2022-10-09 14:55:53 +0000 UTCI'm here mostly for Futurama, but it did bug me when you started talking about naming a child and raising them with gender-neutral pronouns "just in case." There are so many things to worry about with having a child that perhaps trying to account for something that happens once in a hundred thousand. I'd worry about Down syndrome 100 times more than if a child identifies with the gender they're born with. Objectively, it's such a marginal issue (though, of course not for the people affected by gender dysphoria), compared to how much grandstanding there is on both extremes of the political spectrum, where the voices are loudest. Being close to the center on most issues, it's frustrating that this is what elections can be decided on where there are much more fundamental questions that affect the 99.99% of people not personally dealing with the problem (environment, economy, gerrymandering, separation of church and state, etc)

2022-10-09 09:43:49 +0000 UTCand also most of this all REALLY reminded me of what I've been talking to my dad about, and he agrees, LOGIC class should be even *more* mandatory to take than some math classes. Same side of the brain, but we, as a society, really need to relearn how to think in a logical fallacy Edit: And can totally understand the fear of Colon Cancer. Sadly that is what my aunt has, and she's at the end stages of it, right now.
