Happy you appreciate the thought I put into the show xD Hmm, interesting take on Ben! I agree that he hasn't been better in any meaningful way. I want to think that he's not just straight up evil/malicious and that he's trying to be better without any real thought about what that means.

A lot of people’s reactions to this show are pretty jokey or “awww it’s so cute”, which can be fun, but you really catch all the little moments and pay attention to the characters. I feel like this show is so cute and fluffy on the surface, but it’s got a lot of layers to it underneath that. Also, your comments about the link between disordered eating and ADHD… nobody has ever told me about that before and uh. Gotta look into that. So thanks! Now… Ben. I agree that Ben is definitely dealing with shit. But I actually don’t know that he’s trying to be better because… literally what has he done this season that’s better? He was a terrible boyfriend to Imogen, putting her down and ignoring her feelings (like he used to do with Charlie), only seeming to care about her when Nick was around and he could use Imogen to make Nick uncomfortable. He’s been horrible to Nick all season, goading him and digging at his insecurities. When Nick called him out for assaulting Charlie, he tried to claim it was a misunderstanding, and then immediately switched to defending his actions as “going through personal stuff.” The only halfway decent thing he’s seemed to have done this season is not go near Charlie after Charlie told Ben to leave him alone - and he still insulted Charlie by calling him desperate in episode 2. And then he sat next to him at dinner in episode 4, and then this episode told Nick he wanted Charlie back. So at this point he’s not even respecting Charlie’s boundaries anymore. I don’t actually think that Ben is trying to be better. I think it’s more of a rhetorical trick that he’s doing. He keeps saying things like “I was a dick *back then*.” “I *was* going through some personal stuff.” By doing this, he can distance himself from the things that he did that made Charlie hate him in season 1. He can pretend that he was a different person, that he’s better now - without actually doing anything to *be better.* He’s not trying to be better. He’s trying to *feel* better.

2023-08-25 00:53:15 +0000 UTCThe control thing with the food is something that is so important to discuss. I was always really aware of ED, and how easily it could happen. However, when I had to have a lot of surgeries due to my heart stuff when I was younger I did become more of a picky eater. I am trying to curb that pickiness-I still eat every day, at meal times-but I've been also realizing that was something I did for a sense of control, too. Controlling what foods I ate, ect
