But when the studio brought on Matt reeves to direct (who would later make "The Batman") he rewrote the script to take place about 10 years later and have the focus of the movie be about Caesar and his progression.

2024-05-24 00:22:34 +0000 UTCAs you say it is too close in time to The Last of Us to be inspired by it, but I do wonder if the names Ellie (Malcolm's partner) and Sarah (Ellie's deceased daughter... this one would be too much of a coincidence, right?) may be intentional references to it. This is my favorite movie of the trilogy by far, and I especially loved Koba's character. His betrayal of Caesar is very similar to Scar's betrayal of Mufasa in a lot of ways (Mufasa's death probably being my favorite movie scene ever), and I actually think killing Caesar off for real might have taken things in a very interesting direction. But of course, we would've missed a lot of great scenes and dialogues as well.
