I loved this movie but I'm also mad because there were supposed to be LGTB elements in it which were discarded when it changed directors (I'm not sure if the LGTB elements being discarded is the reason the original director left). I think there was supposed to be some sort of parallel between Elio coming out and Glordon coming out about not wanting to be a space conqueror.
