Character Descriptions - Updated 11/20

SHORT FILM - ROUGH DRAFT - Written by Brandon McGill - PRIVATE

MAIN CHARACTERS. 

Dev - Appears age 23-30. Open ethnicity. Male with dark or black blue hair, and ideally, light colored, expressive eyes. Restless, and creative energy. Often fidgets with his hands. Still processing trauma that happened a year ago. Because this was his first relationship, it hit him incredibly hard. For the first few months he isolated himself completely. He tends to cope with humor or taking solitary walks through the forest. He begins the movie feeling disconnected, but is trying to rekindle former friendships. Maybe even find someone special. Nudity.
Mathias - Appears age 24-30. Caucasian or Latino. Male who is slightly older than Dev. Wise and empathetic. Was in a relationship with Dev for six years, and by appearances, very close. Had a macabre sense of humor in school, and was a bit of an outcast. Dev found that all incredibly attractive, but never made a move. They ran into each other at a concert (more like Dev stared at him for an hour, before bumping into him), and the two were quickly inseparable. He provides sincerity, even when the world seems starved of it. Brief Nudity or Partial.  

Sundra - Appears age 22-27. Open ethnicity, though I imagine the role being played by someone with darker skin. Female. Dark hair, heavy red and black eyeshadow. Super sarcastic, playful, and a bit of a smart ass. Dev’s best friend, and absolutely his rock. She hasn’t seen him in a long time, and misses spending time together. Cherishes her partner Mikayla, who respects her independence and take charge attitude. Plays by her own rules, and is a bit of a risk taker/instigator. Ultimately she just wants the best for Dev and is genuinely worried. Partial. 

Thom - Appears age 24-28. Open ethnicity. Male. Dark hair, stubble, kind eyes, and expression. Incredibly charming, trustworthy face, and has no problems exploiting it. Naturally affectionate and talkative. Tall and angular. Wears comfortable, but revealing clothing. Usually has makeup, eyeliner, and bronzer on, which adds to his polished appearance. Tends to keep things surface level, and avoids talking about his personal life. For a very specific reason. Partial.

SUPPORTING CHARACTERS:

Imogen - Appears age 30-55. Open ethnicity. Female. Cordial, well meaning neighbor. Artsy. She loves to pry, but means well. She live vicariously through others and enjoys gossip.

Lucas- Appears age age 21-25. Open ethnicity. Male. Blonde or light ash hair. Able to look pouty. Financially comfortable. Loved by many, but sometimes for the wrong reasons. He understands his privilege, and tries to treat everyone with kindness. Genuinely funny, and occasionally an ass. He seems very interested in Emi, and is frequently seen with him. Brief Nudity.

Rose  - Appears age 25-50. Open ethnicity. Genderfluid. Faded pink wig (or dyed pastel pink hair) - Confident smile, engaging presence. Larger than life personality. Friends often call Rose “The most put together person they know”. Quick witted, and open minded. They are the type of person who doesn’t say much, but when they do, everyone listens.  

Emi/Zephyr  - Appears age 18-20. Open ethnicity. Male. Somewhat conservative in nature, but it’s quickly revealed that he’s far more open than he let on. Thoughtful expressions. Life of the party, but sometimes the butt of a joke. Talks with hands when truly engaged or amused. Because of age, everything is novel. Puts on metallic blue lipstick halfway through the party scene, and suddenly feels very empowered (Zephyr is a voice only role) Brief Nudity or Partial
This actor will need to be good with changing his voice to play two characters.

Mikayla - Appears age 25-35. Open ethnicity. Female or Trans Woman. Assertive smile, wing tip eyeliner, competitive, strong sense of duty, and all around bad ass. Sarcastic, and when pressed, can read you like a book. Oldest child. Uncomfortable with their body, and wears layers. Sundra makes her feel beautiful. Even though they have been together for years, things never grow stale. Very strong power dynamic between them. Brief Partial
Kaleb - Appears age 30-35. Male or Trans Man. Handsome. Calculating smile. Always gets his way, but doubts himself when he’s not the center of attention. Is used to being the star, but is feeling his age catch up. Fiercely intelligent. He can always be seen with a martini in his hand, and a biting remark waiting to escape his lips.
