Can We Save Hubble and Where is the James Webb Space Telescope?

The Hubble Space Telescope has given us some of the most amazing views of the universe for 25 years and although it could go on for many years more, things are starting to go wrong but without the shuttle, we have no real way the fix it.

But its successor the James Webb Space Telescope was due to have been in space years ago. However, now it isn't due to launch until 2021, so could we save Hubble and why is the JWST taking so long.

This reminds me that it might be worth a video looking at how they derived the fix for Hubble from just the images it captured and then the error in the mirror.

Thanks for the great content, I posted this on a Hubble vid of yours already, but its worth noting (to me, hahah) Ball Aerospace, Boulder Colorado, built those corrective lenses used for the Hubble repair. This was the same company that made Ball Mason jars in Muncie Indiana for 140 years or so.

Save the HST! While the JWST is going to explore little-known parts of the I-R e-m spectrum, the HST could still have a long, long future doing even its amazing work in the near I-R, visible and UV parts of the spectrum. In addition, those mind-blowing images do an essential job of public engagement with science and astronomy.
