Welcome to the 18th Card, and the 19th official Tarot Card release! We're almost finished with the Major Arcana! WOW.
What's left? Real quick: The Sun, Judgement, The World.
As a reminder, each new card release comes with NEW photos!
Juliet Walter stars in...Moonrise Kingdom! :P Only not really, I just like the title that's clearly taken from the movie.

This is probably my 5th painting with Juliet? She discovered me by coming to a show, loved the artwork, and eventually recruited her boyfriend to be painted. Adding "He's really hot". He really is.

This was their first body painting together:

Since then I've turned them into Vampires, the Joker and Harley Quinn, and other wonderful oddities.

Kevin even starred in his own Tarot Card, which will re-debut when the official Pentacle cards are chosen.

Life is hilarious, don't you think? In that dark comedy sort of way.

For the moon card, I wanted to explore a softer side of Juliet. Especially since we do a lot of spooky things together. Which makes sense, since she's basically a pastel goth, in the best possible way.

So let's talk about the Moon! Rider Waite writes that the Moon card carries several divinatory associations:
18.THE MOON--Hidden enemies, danger, calumny, darkness, terror, deception, occult forces, error. Reversed: Instability, inconstancy, silence, lesser degrees of deception and error.
The card itself shows a crayfish (That's so cray! I thought it was a Lobster), a Dog, and a Wolf. The card depicts a night scene, where two large pillars are shown. The Moon has "sixteen chief and sixteen secondary rays" and "[is] shedding the moisture of fertilizing dew in great drops" (totaling 15 in the Rider–Waite deck) which are all Yodh-shaped.
As you know, I've only loosely (LOOSELY) based my cards on Rider Waite. This is my Universe!
That's an excuse, I didn't feel like visiting Red Lobster to re-create this. ;-)
My take simplifies things. Juliet is holding the illusion in her hand, while she stares confidently at the viewer. Is she good? Evil? Does it matter? She looks fucking cool! Are there sixteen chief and sixteen secondary rays? Nope! There's like a billion points coming off her Moon AND she is a one winged Angel.
Talk about value! Now you NEED this Tarot Deck. ;-)

Juliet will be very sad if you don't!

So what's the big difference between the first release, and the official card release? Good question!
I softened the colors ever so slightly. The digital linework to outline the moon shapes were made more transparent. The comets were removed. Extra clouds and lighting were added. And of course, the border and ambiance were polished up. Resized to Tarot dimensions.
Honestly it's a really solid card now. What do you think?

Love you to the moon and back,
Brandon!
