Just as Everest expected, some new graduates and even old small-time directors in Hollywood knocked on Kazir's door, hoping that they would become Kazir's next assistant director.
Some of them applied for the job, sending resumes to Grey Pictures even though the company didn't post any hiring notif.
Some used connections. In CAA, hundreds of small-time directors asked their agents and friends to contact Salvatore Barlowe in the hopes of getting the position.
Some literally knocked on Kazir's door to send their resumes in person.
Ding dong
The doorbell rang. It meant that there was someone who pushed the doorbell button.
Kazir slightly raised his head as he looked at the door. Scarlett was snuggling next to him. They were watching TV.
In this era, people had few things to do to pass the time. Watching TV was probably the most common thing to do while at home. The Internet was still not that advanced so people preferred Television at the moment. You can watch shows, movies, and play games using Television.
Most of the time, Kazir and Scarlett were the only ones who lived in the house. Although three times a week, cleaners would show up to maintain the cleanliness of the place.
As for cooking and stuff, they sometimes hire a private chef or they would personally cook their own food.
Anyway, Kazir and Scarlett were having relaxing days. Kazir visited his work jobs at least twice a week just to stay updated. Especially the Wall-E project. Since he promised to do the job, he might as well do it seriously. He didn't interfere with Christopher Nolan's direction, he just checked the progress.
"Who's that?" Scarlett asked.
"Did you order a pizza?"
"No, what about you?"
"I didn't order. At least not today."
Women crave different kinds of foods while pregnant.
Ding dong
The doorbell resounded again.
"I'll take a look." Kazir stretched his arms as he stood.
Kazir walked to the door, half-expecting a delivery guy or maybe one of the neighbors. When he opened it, he was surprised to see a well-dressed young man holding a brown envelope and a hopeful smile.
“Mr. Grey, sorry for the sudden visit,” the man said nervously grinning.
“I’m Tony From LZ Sign. Anyway, I'm an independent director. I just wanted to personally hand you my resume and also a film that I directed last year. It would mean the world if you’d consider me to be your assistant director."
Kazir raised an eyebrow but took the envelope. He then looked at the person.
"You gotta be kidding me. Your name is Tony, and you're from LZ Sign?"
"Ah yes, it's a small village in Canada."
Note, there was no such a thing. The author was just playing around.
"Bullshit."
"Excuse me?"
“Alright,” Kazir sighed and waved his hand.
“I’ll give it a look," he added.
"Thanks!"
The man bowed slightly, then left without pushing further. He knew that he was stepping out of boundaries. But in this industry, you have to be shameless to be successful. Some people even have to sell their souls to acquire fame.
Kazir closed the door and clicked his tongue. He didn't bother opening the resume nor taking a look at the DVD disc. Instead, he put them on top of a small mountain of resumes and DVD discs.
"This is the 14th time this happened. Where did they get the information that I'm looking for a new assistant director? I'm on vacation; I have no project to work with, so I'm not in dire need of an assistant."
Since Modern Family had been approved, the news that Everest would direct the show also spread. Everest was Kazir's assistant director and he now became a bonafide director.
Because of this, people learned that Kazir took care of his assistant directors because of three examples. So yeah, more aspiring directors were doing their best to acquire the position so that they have a sure way to stardom.
Scarlett chuckled softly from the couch, having overheard the conversation.
“You’re becoming a myth in Hollywood now, babe. Everyone thinks you’re the golden ticket,” she teased.
Kazir sighed, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Yeah, and now my doorstep is the lottery store or something.” He walked back into the living room and sat down beside her, picking up the remote again.
He had no intention of watching Tony's film... Poor Tony, he's a good person though.
“Maybe I should just hire someone random and scare the rest off,” he muttered jokingly.
“Or you could make a reality show out of it. How about America’s Next Top Assistant Director,” Scarlett smirked.
"Now that’s a million-dollar idea,” Kazir chuckled.
.........
......
...
Tobey Maguire burst out laughing at the camera after blubbering his line incorrectly.
Despite the somber atmosphere in the set, some people couldn't help but also laugh.
"I'm sorry I forgot my line, let's retake it." The actor said.
The director nodded and the filming resumed.
Tobey Maguire had a thick beard and slightly gained weight for this role to look like a father of two... By the way, have you ever seen Tobey having a thick beard? Perhaps not.
After his success as Peter Parker in the comic-based superhero trilogy Spider-Man, Tobey became a superstar. Almost everyone recognized his face. However, his powerful role as Peter Parker held back his career in the original timeline.
Thankfully, Kazir saved him this time. The director recommended him to star in the horror thriller film Final Destination. Tobey colored his hair black and slightly changed his appearance so that the audience wouldn't be reminded of his iconic role as Peter Parker.
Final Destination was a success and Tobey proved that he was not a one-hit wonder. Unfortunately, his role as the protagonist in Final Destination ended in a single movie.
Still, it helped his career. After Spider-Man and Final Destination, Tobey was cast in many films. He starred in some Dramas and Romance. Although he strayed far from Action and Adventure.
His salary starring in less popular movies might be smaller compared to the Spider-Man trilogy but they were still millions per project. So yeah, Tobey Maguire was doing well.
This time, 20th Century Fox hired him again.
