Very Important Changes to the Patreon

Hey everyone,

This is a very important post so please read and let me know if you have any questions.

As many of you know I have been talking about being busy. I have been trying to keep all the plates spinning, but I find that over time I just can’t maintain the constant workload, being social to support my work, and maintaining the various online sites that I utilize to sell or distribute my work. Now, that the EMBER KS was successful, there is even more work for me to do on the Token Builder and Monster Builder templates. Moreover, my focus includes the static tokens of monsters and creatures unique to EMBER.

I have decided to make some major changes to the rewards of the Patreon. This may, or may not, change at what level you may wish to support me and the work I do.

There are some big changes:
1.) First of all, I am going to close my e-commerce store. I will add all of my existing work (except exclusive and private works) to the Patreon.  I will explain in a bit about which Tiers will have access to which genres and types of files.

2.; Secondly, I will no longer release monthly tokens. I am positive that I will still be making tokens every month. As a patron, you will have access to them depending on your Tier. I’ll still be checking the request line and trying to make tokens that are popular for various reasons. There may be months, however, where I do not make any new tokens for Patrons.

Because tokens will be organized in a new way, reference to packs will go away and the focus will be more on genre, types of tokens, and broader categories like Humans, Elves, Orcs, Goblins etc.

There are things that stay the same: Discord will be open to everyone. There will be only a few private channels for topics related to specific Tiers. The Requests and Off with their Heads will still be available to everyone. I will also try to stream regularly.

I’ll be around to offer assistance in finding tokens as well as helping kit bashers.

I hope, by simplifying things, I can free up time to get back to other game adjacent projects that aren’t specifically tokens, such as item art, maps, and illustrations.

Here are Tiers and what will you get for your support:

Tier 1: Free or $1 however it needs to be done
Limited Access to Discord (if I can make it work)
all the free tokens I’ve released to date.

Tier 3: $3,
Access to discord, special channels,

all non-fantasy tokens released to date in .png and .webp formats.

(sci-fi, horror, modern)
Custom tokens shared by other Patrons

Tier 5: $5
All of the above plus,
access to all tokens from all genres including Fantasy in .png and .webp formats

Item illustrations.

Tier 8: $8

All of the above plus,
Access to the kit-bashers channel with help from me,

access to parts, template files, maps, and RPG related things I create.

Tier 12: $12

All the above plus, access to a private channel

a higher priority of timely response,

and some layered PSD files.

It will take a couple months to get everything in place. I will continue to support the current arrangement through November, then switch to the new setup. I will send a code out monthly that will allow you to access all the files. CurrentIy the plan is to use Dropbox for hosting the files. You can get your tokens without needing to have a Dropbox account. I don’t have exact numbers but I would guess close to 8,000 fantasy tokens and another 1,000 or more tokens in other genres. The goal would be to also update tokens and recreate some dated ones.

Thank you for your support. I know this change may be too much for some of you and I totally understand. Many of you, though, are here to support me regardless of what specific work I have been doing. I appreciate all of you and all the support that has come way since starting the Patreon. I love making tokens and will continue to make them for many more years to come.

Very Important Changes to the Patreon

I would make posts letting people know what new tokens had been added and what files had been updated. Once it's in place we will have to see if Dropbox also has an alert to what files have been modified.

I think the changes look like they are moving in a good direction. One question I would have is how to see the changes over time and knowing when new tokens are showing up in the new type classifications. Always interested in getting access to the new content.

I'm hoping that with the community's help we can find a way to make finding tokens easier. Organizing them by type instead of the mixed bag approach I have now should be a huge step forward. Roll20 and possibly DTRP will still carry my tokens. As well as FG and any other marketplace. New packs will be uploaded when I have an appropriate set. The one drawback of closing the store is that I don't think there is an easy way to acees previously bought packs. But with all the tokens being available at the $5 tier getting access to anything you may have bought in the past should be easy.

Good news! Consolidation is a good thing! Just one thing I'm a bit worried about, I'm using your store to find tokens, I'm often out of luck with Patreon. I just hope it'll be easier in the future. I suppose all your Patreon tokens would also be available on Moulinette? This one seems pretty reliable. Also two other questions: 1. What about roll20 and other VTT specific stores? 2. What would happen to assets bought in your store?

Adenrius

Thank you very much. It makes me happy knowing that people appreciate the work I'm doing and how I do it.

Devin Night

I'm honestly deeply happy for you. This feels like a good direction for the patreon, and I'm happy I was able to support your work with pack purchases before they disappeared. I'll be staying on as long as my finances allow for it, even more enthusiastically now. I feel like not having to manage so many avenues of integration will allow you to focus on your art, and I'm really excited for the work you're doing for Ember. You've helped me so much over on discord, and you've been extremely generous with your time and work. I'm so appreciative. Thanks, Devin. Here's to a bright future.

Gregory MacDonald

Thanks. I think it will help people find tokens. Except for those weird ones that fit so many roles. Hopefully I can get some of the tokens tagged.

Devin Night

Honestly I think this is a move in the right direction anyway. I like the new consolidation by genre approach to the tokens.

Aaron Burke

It's okay Devin - I understand. I hope your business continues to work for you. I'll be here as a patron. Be well.

Robert Trifts

Awesome. I've been using your tokens for my Star Trek Adventures game and being able to pull tokens into a scene on demand has been an absolute lifesaver!

Neal Zupancic

Good question. If anything it should mean that all the tokens become available to everyone who is a member. I need to think about this just a bit and talk with him.

Devin Night

Thanks for all your work! One question: does this mean any changes to Moulinette integration or availability of tokens there?
