09 - New Spell

Needless to say, the reaction of the rest of the family was just as surprising as my mother's, right?

The biggest reaction of the four was from my father, who, when he tasted the meat, couldn't look away from the pan, wanting to take a few more pieces, but knowing that if he took any more, someone would eat very little.

Milla was also very surprised, with a cute little smile on her face throughout the meal.

Even Finn, who usually didn't have much of a reaction when it came to eating, when he tried the vegetable soup with the piece of fried meat I noticed his eyes widening as he began to look at the food very closely.

For someone who didn't even focus his attention on anything for very long, showing such interest in the food was a great compliment.

As someone who helped prepare the food, I paid attention to everyone's reaction and their surprise and joy was like a small achievement for me, causing a small smile to adorn my face.

Sure, I ate the food too and compared to the food we'd eaten over the last week, it was like heaven and earth.

Even though I didn't really like vegetables in my previous world, just being able to taste something on my taste buds was cause for celebration.

Not to mention the fact that I could finally eat until my hunger subsided!

Stopping the feeling of hunger eating away at my stomach was an incredible feeling, even more so because this meal was even more nutritious than the little celebration I'd had with my father at the store, I felt even more satisfied and my body was better prepared for anything.

So as not to waste this feeling, after eating, my father and I went out into the yard and we started another spell lesson.

He had already taught me how to use this spell, but as I only wanted to focus on the healing spell, I hadn't practiced it yet, so this would be my first real attempt at an aggressive spell.

"[Glacius Lancea]” I said quietly while imitating the Mana Tree that my father had formed in front of me.

One thing I realized this week was that my memory was not only enhanced after coming to this world, but it was almost at a photographic memory level.

Everything I saw with my magic eyes was registered in my mind and with a simple thought I could visualize it, or even stop the time of that memory at a specific point and keep the image of it in my mind.

This was extremely useful when it came to working with spells.

Even though my father was no longer doing the spell in front of me, I could still visualize the Mana tree that came out of his hand so that I could replicate it whenever I wanted.

Another thing he explained to me was that the magic words in the spell's name helped to channel and form the magic tree.

For [Levare Vitae] I had already achieved such mastery of the spell that I no longer needed the help of pronouncing the spell's name, being able to replicate the magic tree with my Mana control alone with ease.

But for [Glacius Lancea], which would be the first time I was practicing, to be on the safe side I decided to use the magic word.

Even though I used the magic word and could see the original magic tree of the spell, I still had trouble controlling my Mana to replicate it perfectly.

The spell that was supposed to make a 30-centimeter cone of ice appear around me before being launched at the target in front of me at high speed, in the end became just a small 10-centimeter cone that flew slightly fast towards my target, a piece of a wooden log that my father had hung from one of the branches of the tree in the backyard.

The ice cone still pierced the wooden trunk, but only the surface of it, causing no significant damage, which disappointed me a little.

The mana tree of [Levare Vitae] had 5 branches, [Examen Vitalis] had 8 branches, while [Glacius Lancea] had 9 branches, being even more complex than Examen Vitalis, making it the most complicated spell I've ever tried to use.

The biggest indication of this was the strength being drained from my body and the weakness attacking me.

All the feeling of satiation I felt after dinner had disappeared, only for weakness to take over and my body to become slower and heavier.

Looking at my body with my magic eyes, I could see as if the circulation of Mana in my body had become more rushed, trying to compensate for the lack of Mana I had available beyond the reserves for my eyes, which was probably the cause of my weakness.

With my body staggering, my father quickly held me up and supported me so that I wouldn't fall, while smiling proudly.

“You were amazing, Kael!” He said excitedly. “On your first try you've already managed to make the spear perform all the necessary processes!”

Hearing him say that, I was a little surprised. “Was that good?”

“Yeah! Even with my eyes the first time I tried this spell I only managed to make an ice spear as big as yours, but without the command for the spear to fly forward, which made it fall on my foot right after being summoned hahaha.” He laughed.

This surprised me even more, making me curious about the only wizard in our family. “And Hal, how was his first attempt?”

Thinking for a moment, my father answered honestly. “He didn't even manage to make the ice spear appear in the first five attempts, only after a whole day of practicing did he manage to make an ice spear smaller than his hit the target.”

While this surprised me, it was also something imaginable. Without being able to see the mana tree of each spell, the difficulty of replicating the spell for normal people must be much greater than for us.

But while Hal had the disadvantage of not being able to do well after one attempt, he had at least 5x more Mana available to practice the spell, which balanced out his disadvantage somewhat.

'When I manage to get my absurd Mana consumption out of my eyes, my disadvantage will disappear completely...' I thought excitedly.

As tired as I was, I needed my father's help to carry me up the stairs to my room until he left me at my bedroom door and I just went to my bed to collapse there.

My body was exhausted, so I just lay there resting, but my mind was still active with what I had seen.

The ice lance spell was very different from the healing spells I had practiced before, but it had some similarities to the water evocation spell I had tested before.

Although [Aqua Evocare] is an [Everyday Spell], some of the branches of this spell had many similarities to the ice lance spell.

They were probably responsible for condensing the water in the environment from a gaseous state to a liquid state, which would then be solidified into ice on another branch.

Analyzing the two Mana trees, I quickly identified which branch was the water condensation branch from the ice lance spell and compared it to the Mana tree my father made.

'So that's why my ice spear is only 30% the size of my father's ice spear...' I realized. 'The branch responsible for condensing the water in the environment was not only slightly out of position, but it was also smaller than my father's and twisted in different directions...'

Every small difference in a spell's tree could directly affect the quality of the spell, something I had to experiment with dozens of times with [Levare Vitae] to achieve such a high quality.

And considering that [Glacius Lancea] had almost twice as many branches as [Levare Vitae], the amount of testing I would have to do to achieve such a high mastery of this spell would probably also be almost double.

But that didn't discourage me; with proper nutrition, I wouldn't have to wait as long to recover my Mana as I had with the previous spell.

Even though this spell spent more Mana because the tree had more branches, it was still at a level I could handle.

Seeing how I could manipulate these spells in such an interesting and creative way was everything I loved most about my previous world while making my games.

Messing around with this spell was like a big game to me, and I was loving it.

Thanks! I think "was just as surprising" should be "surprised". I think "I could see as if the circulation" should be "I could see the circulation". "make an ice spear smaller than his hit" should be "yours".
