10 - More money!
Added 2024-12-23 18:12:42 +0000 UTCThe next day, two other wounded hunters with minor injuries came to my father's store.
The hunter I helped treat yesterday had apparently commented to his friends that there was a healer who charged cheaply to take care of minor injuries and the two of them came to see how it worked shortly after the store opened.
One of them had the back of his leg torn by an animal's claws, reducing his mobility, while the other had a cut on his chest.
When they both saw that I looked like a 10 or 11 year old, even though I was 14, they were as uncertain as the customers from the day before.
Fortunately, as long as I spoke in a professional and more polite manner than the peasants, it would increase my credibility a lot, since they saw me more as a magician and less as a child.
Considering the seriousness of the two injuries, I decided to treat the one with the cut on my leg first.
My father and I hadn't yet bought a bed to put up in the store, so the man with the calf wound had to lie down on a blanket that we had spread out on the floor to receive treatment.
This increased the men's doubts again, but when the magic finally left my hand and began to heal the wound, all the doubts they had disappeared.
Within minutes the man's leg was completely healed and he even managed to get up off the ground without anyone's help.
Taking small leaps and testing his own leg, the man was completely satisfied and instead of just paying me the 2 copper coins, he even gave me a copper coin as a tip, bringing my total earnings from this treatment to 3 copper coins!
Seeing his friend completely cured, the other patient got excited and was also preparing to lie down on the blanket on the floor to receive the treatment, but I had to stop him.
“I'm sorry but as I'm still learning magic, my total amount of Mana is very low, I'll need a rest of at least 2 hours to recover my Mana before I can use another spell...” I said as I bowed my head in polite apology.
I could see the disappointment on the man's face, but when he looked at my body, I think he realized something and quickly replied. “Don't worry Young Doctor, I've already been injured for a few days, waiting another two hours won't kill me haha!”
Fortunately he understood this and said he would go for a walk with his friend and be back in two hours.
Realizing that this could be a problem in the future, I decided to make a sign warning that I could only see one patient every two hours and put it on the wall behind me.
If they know this as soon as they enter the store, there will be no disappointment.
“Well done Kael, at this rate you could even earn twice as much as you did yesterday!” My father said excitedly.
Smiling back at him, I nodded. “Yes, Dad, if all goes well we'll be able to eat great meals like that two or even three times a day!”
Yesterday's nutritious meal is working miracles on my body.
My magic is recovering much faster, decreasing the waiting time between each spell from 3 hours to 2 hours, not to mention that increasing the amount of meals this way also replenishes the nutrients my body needs, making me more physically fit as well as returning my body development to the normal level of a 14-year-old boy.
Hearing me say this, my father was a little hesitant, I think still feeling bad that I wanted to buy food for the house instead of spending that money on myself, but I just explained my points and showed him how much it will benefit me and he had to give in.
After a few hours, the hunters returned and I was finally able to treat the man.
He wasn't as generous as his friend and didn't give me a tip, but I wasn't upset about it.
5 copper coins was already a big amount for me.
What's more, one more customer arrived before we closed up store at the end of the day, bringing my total turnover to 7 copper coins!
As there were still some vegetables left at home, those 7 coins were enough to buy enough food for our dinner tonight and a good lunch tomorrow!

“Are you going to help me with dinner again, Kael?” My mother asked expectantly.
With these eyes of mine, observing small details in people's expressions and deducing how they felt was much easier than in my previous life.
Coupled with the fact that I'm not very talkative and like to enjoy silence, I used this new skill to the full to adapt to this new world.
Realizing that my mother enjoyed my company cooking yesterday and was looking forward to me cooking with her again made me happy.
“Yes, I will, Mom.” I smiled as I went into the kitchen with her.
This time, instead of just the two of us in the kitchen, there was also a curious little head.
Milla, who normally just played with her dolls, today became curious as to why I wanted to help in the kitchen and also came to help us, which made my mother even more excited about preparing the food today.
If I thought of myself as quiet, Milla was several times quieter than me, and Finn was several times quieter than Milla.
But since yesterday, I've noticed that Milla has started to show different interests and I've been able to hear her voice more often.
'Maybe she was also suffering from hunger and didn't have the courage to say so? ' I thought intently.
Using the advantage of my eyes in the kitchen, my mother asked me to keep an eye on the pans and not let anything burn while she and Milla took care of preparing the food before it reached the pot.
With interest, I just sat down on a simple wooden stool and carefully watched everything they were doing while I listened to my mother's explanations of why she was doing it that way.
Milla already had a bit of experience with cooking because my mother had explained it to her in the past, but she didn't have much practice and every now and then she would make a small mistake.
One example was when Lise put Milla in charge of seasoning the broth for the soup we were making.
Holding the little pot of seasoning with holes in it to let out a small dose, Milla was looking seriously at the soup pot as she poured in the exact amount my mother had suggested.
Unfortunately, her little hand was too small and weak, so that on the sixth pinch of salt, the salt shaker slipped out of her hand and fell straight into the pot.
“Whops!” Milla was startled by the mistake and quickly reached out to take the pot of seasoning back.
Realizing what she was going to do, I quickly reached out and grabbed her wrist while speaking in a worried tone. “Milla, the broth is hot, don't put your hand in there.”
Looking at my hand holding her wrist, Milla was startled, but when she heard what I said and looked back at the bubbling pot, she understood what I meant and was surprised.
Seeing that she wasn't going to try to put her hand in the pot anymore, I quickly grabbed a wooden spoon and took the pot out of the pot, but a lot of the seasoning had leaked into the soup.
“I don't think I can eat this soup anymore?” Milla asked uncertainly as she looked at it.
Seeing what had happened, my mother also came closer and looked pityingly at the large pot of soup that might not have been very edible without saying anything.
“I think it's still good...” I said as I controlled the spoon to try and get as much of the seasoning that hadn't yet dissolved into the soup as possible.
With my eyes, I could see precisely where there was spice left and use the spoon to quickly scoop it up.
But unfortunately that wasn't enough.
Too much spice was under the broth and quickly absorbed into the soup.
“Isn't there any spice to balance it out?” I asked uncertainly.
“I think if we add a little Brumefria powder, the taste of the Ovarleira will be more diluted...” My mother thought for a moment and looked for another spice to add to the broth.
At this point what we were doing was almost like a chemistry lesson from my previous world, putting different ingredients together to neutralize other ingredients and try to restore the tasty taste of the food.
Using my precise eyes and our three taste buds, after an hour of experimentation we finally managed to make the soup edible.
It was nowhere near as tasty as yesterday's food, but it was still miles tastier than the food we'd eaten before that.
And as we ate, seeing that neither my father nor Finn noticed that anything had gone wrong with the soup, Milla, our mother and I looked at each other with smiles on our faces and laughed from time to time.
Taking our relationship to the next level without any of us realizing it.

Thanks! "the cut on my leg first" should be "his". "Whops" should be Whoops". I think "I don't think I can eat" should be "we".
