Command Point Changes Coming!

Let's talk about the proposed Command Points changes coming in War Zone Nephilim

Command Point Changes Coming!

Comments

This is the first rules update gw has made that I truly hate. The game was not designed to start with so few cp. I bought chaos knights partially on the ability to soup them. Now that the super heavy aux costs half the starting cp, I have to choose between them and extra relics/wlt. Maybe it will be fine, but until I try it out it sucks.

Bond Weissmann

It's a step in the right direction, but the most expensive detachment should always be free of CP, regardless the type/warlord.

Lorenzo Sgarallino

You aren't considering that alpha strikes are the strength of some armies and they become completely non viable if they can't hit hard first round

RICHARD

as if allying genestealer cults with brood brothers wasnt rough enough with the changes.

Matt

I already shelved my Daemon’s until the codex comes out, but this really drives the nail in the coffin. I’m pretty sure exalted will become point driven rather than CP.

Steven Cowan

This will make some huge tactical changes, nice insight as usual

Tris

Depends on how many characters im bringing usually i can get away with 1 detachment, but the upgrades for those units can kill ya too. I run iron hands and tend to burn 2-4 cp pre game all the time

Michael A Kasubaski

You need more than 6 slots of a given type for a single force org slot?

Sean Holtzman

This change potentially stops the alpha striking capabilities of Admech and DE and some others dumping 6-12CP first round to just obliterate forces. I don't think it will hinder games much at all and may allow armies to get de-Nerfed, even

Sean Holtzman

Good point!

Sören the German (Trembich Moving Moments)

They likely will not remove the options for the new extra +3/+6 detachment CP that Knights got in the new dex, so I don't think (and hope) you'll be hurting as badly as you fear!

Sean Holtzman

Combat Patrol games aren't likely to be included but yeah only having 3 CP to spend will be even more challenging in Incursion than 6 in Strike Force I'd say.

Sören the German (Trembich Moving Moments)

Exactly

Michael A Kasubaski

Well this would kill any sort of small game special type armys. I like playing 1000 point games but tend to run 1 or 2 spearhead/ outrider/ vanguard depending on what im bringing. This would limit or eliminate that

Michael A Kasubaski

I feel like this is a cool change for newer players like myself as we dont have all the knowledge yet so this feels way less punishing against a wiser player who can virtually alpha strike us out of the game turn 1-2. I do agree it not really being consistent across formats could also lead to some weird issues with builds and fairness of games

Kevin Mclaughlin

I feel like the biggest change will be a reduction in things like Vanguard Detachments. The -3 Command Points are gonna hit a lot harder when you only have 7. I'd like this to be matched with a reduction in detachment costs, but that seems unlikely.

Clair, Queen of Shibes

This is very bad for my 3 detachment Genestealer list xD

Olivia

I'm curious to see how starting CP changes for patrol & incursion size games.

Joseph Shumate

I like the reduction of power combos but I think it could/should have been differently. My current IK list spends no less then 6 pregame CP so will likely start at 0 in the new pack, but as you said will probably gain more over the course of the game so it might not be that bad. I would have liked a limit to one Stratagem per phase. I would probably even be on board if all of them except the core rulebook ones were changed to once per game only.

Sören the German (Trembich Moving Moments)

Also, Guilliman, while he has his issues with points cost, is +3 CP, at the cost of 1 CP for the super heavy auxiliary detachment if I recall. If anything, this has the potential to make Ultramarines point heavy and highly adaptable.

Jeffrey R. Hall

Leave it to GW to finally get the game to the most balanced state it's ever been and then they go and do something stupid like this

RICHARD

Not necessarily, it depends on whether or not the change Calgar. He currently boosts your CP by +2. That alone makes him worth his points.l, especially with the current changes.

Jeffrey R. Hall

I feel like this change might need an adjustment to army building. Maybe something like you get 3 cp worth of pregame expenditures for free but don't get to carry any over in to round one to keep some options open. Overall I like reducing the front load expenditure but I don't want to limit build options especially with cool detachments like super heavies.

Balyrion

I actually really like the idea of getting more cp throughout the game, the lessening of wombo-combos as well as the spending of CP in the first few rounds, but as someone who just can't help but spend the CP on things like extra warlord traits or relics, I'd be lying if I didn't say that it still hurts a little.

Brendan A Bailey

If they’re reducing the amount of available CP then it’ll invalidate stratagems even more like preliminary bombardment.

patric mewse

First thing that comes to mind for me is the Ultramarine's Rapid Redeployment, which will be a lot less of an auto use. Might mean the Invictor Tactical Warsuit will be a lot more of a niche pick (even more than now).

Depression

I swear, these changes come out quicker than I can get in games to try em
